Tenants pain in the !!!!
Comments

I did, did you. If a LL asked me whether I was going to paint their fence, I would be quite straight forward and say no it is for them to do.
Also as with all topics we are getting a one sided story, we don't know what the history is with the Landlord popping round.
Having just had to reinstate some fences for my own property after the bad weather, I know what a time consuming and messy job it is.
Just wondering where your use of 'expecting the tenant to do this' comes from?????0 -

In the OP's original post it states he asked the tenant whether he was going to do it, the implied question being when are you going to do it.
It isn't the tenant's responsibility, the question should have been "When can I come round to paint the fences ?"0 -
It is, of course, hard to know who is to blame for this antagonism without the full history & background.I spoke to the tenant on Friday .I asked if he was going to paint the fence or would I paint it .
"I need to do some maintenance work to the fence and would like to schedule this in. When would it be convenient for me to do this, or would you prefer to do it yourselves if I supply the materials?"
Having said that, given that the T agreed to paint, and LL agreed to supply the matrials, it is certainly a shae the T's partner did not chek wih his/her partner what had been discussed before having a go at the poor OP!0 -

Aah right. So the answer to my original question is that you read half the OP and then just filled the rest in with stuff you made up or 'implied'0 -
Give and Take!!!
A couple of years ago I started to rent a new property from My new landlord.
While showing me round he asked if I wanted anything ?
I said yes please can I have 4/5 cans of fence paint and a brush!
I wanted to paint and protect the new fences as this was now MY HOME and no need for the landlord coming in and out of my garden for 3/4/5 days.
I enjoyed painting the fences over a couple of days and cutting the grass, looking after MY GARDEN.
Lived in the property for four and a half years with Very few visits from my Landlord or Agents.
It went up in value and I paid the mortgage :-{ but house prices were rising at the time.
I had a nice new property which was cheap to keep warm, safe ( Alarm system) and MY HOME.
Never felt like repainting the inside ( all cream walls ) as not my home to make a mess of painting.
Got my deposit back and NO problems from the Landlord or Letting Agents.
Give and Take
Good start to a long term Tenant/landlord relationship ?0 -
Am I the only one who is really freaked out by the space before EVERY full stop in the OP's original post?
Maybe I need some sleep.0 -
a bit of history
My tenants first request was the electrician as the light bulb was flickering. She seemed surprised I suggested changing the bulb as she didn't think it would work .
A second request was to change a fuse, but she refused to let me do it as the children Christmas presents were in the cupboard . That cost me £20.
Third request was a new front door as her hall was cold .
I told her partner, he could buy her thermal knickers for Xmas, but no chance of a new door. The door is not the problem there is a flat roof over the front hall .
Fourth request to clear a blocked drain, She said she had tried to clear it.
I put my hand down the drain and pulled out two leaves .
Fifth request wanted a pump for the back boiler replaced. There never was a pump, but she wouldn't believe it until I got the floor lifted.
Sixth request broken toilet, but refused to the plumber in as she wasn't putting herself out for anyone. Finally, let the plumber in on Christmas eve.
Seventh request blew another fuse, this time I replaced it.
Eighth request wanted a hedge removed and replaced with a fence ,to removed the hedge alone would cost £300.
Mrs tenant has also broken the outside light
and daughter has flooded the bathroom"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

If you ever relocate to South Wales, please come and be my tenant - you sound like the perfect tenant! :-)
It is so refreshing to hear a tenant say, "my home" with regards to anything other than their rights.0 -
Now that we have some background (and based purely on the evidence so far - there may well be another side to the story), serve S21, wait till fixed term expires, evict and find reasonable tenant.0

Maybe I need some sleep.
