Yeah, cashback has tracked already, unlike Sk@y, who were gits and never paid it at all! We are going for self install, it should be here by Saturday :)

I love my super super super fast v1rgin broadband, but i loathe the t!vo box. It simply isn't a patch on the competitor's box.. After 2 years I still miss my Skai menu!

We've never had any fancy TV TM, so this will all be new to me. Does T1vo still make the funny wee 'popping' noise?

This might sound daft, but how do you go about getting a new bathroom fitted? Do you choose all the materials, then find a contractor and give them the spec, or do you find a contractor, tell them roughly what you want and expect them to source things?

Mrs E and I are disagreeing! :rotfl:
  • If they source things then expect to pay a mark up.
If you have decided exactly which fittings you want then you could ask for them to be included in the quote. Or buy the gear and get the cashback yourself. Quidco?
Often loos come without seats and sinks without taps so watch out.

Have you thought of an extractor fan? Lighting? Decoration and accessories?

Don't need an extractor fan, good double glazed window that opens right out provides enough ventilation, lighting will be downlights (getting those quoted by electrician as part of our overhaul tomorrow), decor will be tiles, happy enough we know what sort. Accessories? Radiator and the like?

  • We bought our bathroom suite from H0mebase on sale last summer (bath/toilet) and got our vanity/sink from IKEA.

Plumber came out and ripped out our existing suite and then came back ~3 weeks later (when we were finished DIYing the makeover) to install the new items.

Then we waited over a year and finally installed a heated towel rack.

Accessories in our bathroom are: medicine cabinet, corner cabinet (from IKEA) for more storage), loo roll holder, toilet brush holder, small bin, hook for door to hang bathrobes/etc, fancy matching light/shower pulls. Our electric shower included a little platform for soaps/shampoos/etc, otherwise we were considering one of those corner tower ones. We treated ourselves to fresh linens (large bath towels and matching hand towels, bath mats) as part of the renovation.

We handled scheduling the various tradesmen ourselves (electrician/plumber/plasterer) so that probably saved ourselves money (though not time!) over having someone do it all as a single job.

Have fun - our bathroom is probably our favourite room of the house. :D It's also the most finished, so that may have something to do with it.

How on earth did you cope without a bathroom suite for 3 weeks?!!

Actually, I think it might have only been 2 weeks. I blocked out the memory a bit. ;)

DH and I both have access to showers at work, so we just did that, and on the weekends we went to the gym across the street. Wasn't fun, but certainly beat paying £4k (I think) that was quoted to get the job done by a crew (and that still would have taken 2-3 days).
