Have you had a look at cheaper areas of eg Bearsden( there are some!) which have catchment to a good academy?

3 bed semi with a good school for less than £200k in Bearsden? You must be looking at a different Rightmove from me :)
How do you know what your daughter and future siblings want at this stage?

I don't think I'm being too much of a stereotype when I think that DD and future sibling might enjoy running around the lawn :p
Not trying to be harsh and I think it's great that your priority is your child(ren), so is mine but having a child does not have to mean having no hobbies of your own.

I hear what you're saying, but I grew up in a house where that was very much the case. In laws are totally different, but I don't know if either of my parents have ever had a hobby!
Hi ed, I completely understand your views on schooling when they are young, but im not sure how to put this nicely but i found it preferable to get mine into a better school as the local one (in our first place) had mums in pjamas at the school gates

That's not offensive - dropping your child at school in your PJs is! In our neck of the woods, I've seen them rush out to the ice cream van in their jammies :rotfl:
Cant you just arrange web based home schooling?

That is looking like an option ;)
  • Juliet's e-Godmothers can do it!!
  • Ed, I literally walked my two past three schools each day to talk them to a primary in an area of high social deprivation. Yes. It did have mums in pyjamas at the gates but it had highly committed staff some of whom had been there since I had attended. The outcome, two who went on to grammar schools and Russell group unis. For schools, I'd say go with what feels right and expect to work with the child. Dd now volunteers from time to time at "her wee primary" delivering extra curricular stuff. You can't get a much higher recommendation than that.

Discussing schools can become a very emotive topic, can't it?

Well, the ball is rolling. I have instructed an EA, have paused the DD for my S&S ISA and have identified a conveyancing solicitor who looks like the one that we will go with :)

Will speak to our existing lender tonight to see what the options are re. moving house (ERCs/'porting' (not that that's really a thing) and options for increasing our existing borrowing. Mrs E has dug out the details, but will still speak to lender in person so that they can advise on anything we've missed.

Now to try and focus on my day job :o

If MrsE has a sling that she isn't using, they tend to have decent resale value if in good condition. I'd recommend using a facebook selling page dedicated to babywearing.

If she's interested in babywearing but just didn't get on with the sling, perhaps a soft structured carrier may be better? Examples include (but not limited to) Ergo (full buckles), mei tai (has a body but wrap straps), Bondolino (my own personal favourite, so comfortable and easily adjustable to 2 sizes of parent). A quick google should show you if you have a local sling library (or check out your local NCT page) where you can go, get demos, and even loan one for a week or two for quite reasonable prices before you outlay cash on a new one.

Point taken. :) My initial thought was that you could tell them to play on neighbouring fields but I suppose considering you live in a city that's more proof I'm a special kind of stupid.

My parents never had time for anything other than working literally 7 days per week for almost 50 years, sad really. Don't want my son to grow up in that kind of environment.

Work seems take over some people's lives, others are so focused on their children that they never have any fun for themselves and must keep little Johnny happy for absolutely every second of every single day.

Are you sure the ice cream van just sells ice cream ...

Deciding where to school your children is an utter nightmare. There's not a right answer, I spent almost 3 years looking for one.

Looks like some exciting times ahead for you and family. :D

    Boring grownup mortgage stuff done:
    • Spoke to bank, who will hopefully let us port c. £100k @ 3.15% and borrow additional at a better rate (3.15% rate can be remortgaged in March)
    • Paid off £2,500 stooze (will hopefully have a positive effect on affordability)
    • I bought £700 of P2P loans from the house (frees up cash for deposit)
    • Chased EA to get the ball rolling re. survey and photos (get the feeling there might be a bit of this)

Was naughty and had takeaway pizza :o

Will need to tidy a bit tomorrow and Wed, photographer coming = hide all your !!!!! in cupboards :rotfl:

Viewings booked, will need to check Rightmove for anything else that suits.
