    • £9 to S&S ISA pot
Ed - at the risk of making myself look a complete and utter numpty again ......... Could you clarify something for me please - as I've not found the answer elsewhere.

You mention, reasonably regularly, popping money into a S&S ISA *pot*. Um, is this an online bank a/c or your a/c with a broker? And are you popping the *bits* of cash (hate describing money in such throw away fashion, but I think you'll grasp my meaning) into this a/c until the *bits* build up to enough to buy a *unit*? What I mean is, you're not buying £9 worth here or £15 worth there are you? Say a *unit* was £100, you're saving up the *bits* until you reach £100 and then purchasing a unit - yes?

Or have I completely missed the point? Sorry to ask you - but I've seen you and someone else mention it (on the *small things* thread) and I wanted to make sure that I understood what you mean. As I'm sure that this is in addition to any d/d regular payments that you may already chose to make.

Again, sorry to be a pain, asking all these questions - it's only because I want to understand!:D

    Don't do it.

Fine then. Was reduced to £36.37. If I make at least 3x that next week and it's on offer then, I'll let myself get a bottle.

    You understand correctly :)

The money goes into a T5B account @5% interest and is paid into the S&S ISA as soon as I can afford a unit (typically rounded up to £145). I save £6/7/8/9/10 a day in weekly cycles until I have enough. It averages out at £8/day, no idea why I don't just go for £8/day :rotfl:

Because you like making it complicated sometimes - just sometimes :rotfl:

I'm glad you took Alex's instruction not to do the whisky. I confess, after last week, I thought you were talking in the hundreds, not the tens :D

Ed - thanks everso for your prompt response. I get it, and I'm somewhat relieved that another piece of the picture has slotted into place for me :D Also, an *un-intended*, but none the less *gratefully received* consequence of your answer is to make me have a *ping* moment about the level I need to set my d/d at. It needs to be affordable each month, but if I'm savvy, I can also make it have the best *impact* for our investment each month :D

Thanks for helping me to understand all this Ed and also for making me think :D:beer: I reckon we're gonna need a considerably bigger bucket......... :rotfl:

That wasn't Alex, he was secretly willing me on from the sidelines! ;)

While my total spend for June is in the £££, my average spend is in the ££ (just).

Greying, I sometimes get the funniest feeling that I know you in real life, I don't suppose you're a Glaswegian? :)

My approach to direct debits is to pay a meaningful amount to the S&S ISA that we can easily afford, with liberal top ups as I go. We pay in £320/mth, but our 'usual' total is perhaps £6-800 all told. That way I can rein things in a little if I find myself getting skint.

Ha! Regretfully not Dear Heart - the good lord didn't grant me the good fortune to be born in your fair country :D So I'm pretty sure that I can categorically state that you've not met me in RL - which is a shame, as I'm alright really.......... :D

Do you take a tenner a day out the bank, then whatever is left put it in another account, or have a set amount per day.

I do all of my saving/transfers/op etc the day after payday

Not sure if I've asked this before but do you drink the whisky or buy it as an investment?
