Well, in for a penny, in for several thousand pounds, I'll book him a cab0 -
Really sorry to read your news. Have you lived there long, any recourse on surveys from when you bought?
Good luck.

I don't see how Tilly, I believe we only had the basic version of a survey, I don't think there was anything beyond a visual survey of the exposed bits (IYSWIM)?0

really good idea to do a thread separately, it looks like its worked well, given you some good ideas.

I would like to hear a story where someone got financial redress through a survey.
Even full reports are couched in so many ifs buts and maybes.0 -
sorry to hear the electrical woes Ed, have been there a couple of times myself, cost me a fortune each time
while they were re-wiring I chose to take the opportunity to just get all the lights and things I wanted done at the same time, making the job bigger and more expensive, but atleast were much happier with the way the lights are ( got more to do tbh as we couldnt afford to totally change everything last time due to cost )

A proper building survey is worth the extra money and certainly something to budget for the next time you move. I can't say I can remember exactly what is looked at but it was a lot more than the basic one required to get a mortgage.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
You're right Alex, our first home purchase has been a constant series of lessons learned. I am not bitter about that, but we are a lot more mature now and future purchases will be subject to a ridiculous level of scrutiny0
