Hi
I just completed today and i have just moved.
In the past week my neighbour had a garage conversion done.
Need some advice:
1) Does this alter the definition of the property - i.e is it still class as a link detached.
2) Shouldn't my solictor informed myself about any planning application during process of the purchase (i can only assume the neighbour got permission a while back)
Thanks

You wouldn't normally need planning permission for a garage conversion.
Is your garage still a garage? If so, it's still a link-detached. (Not that you see insurance companies asking if it's semi, link-detached or detached, it's just a name given by EAs really to help sell)0 -
I don't know why it did that
, but thanks wecanhelpu

The layout from left to right
neighbours house---->neighbours garage---->my house---->my garage
His garage is not garage now and therefore In my eye I would class this as semi detached.
do you agree?0 -
Erm, yeah. I'd agree. Sort of. I still don't think it means that they need PP. If you were detached and the built up to your wall then they probably wouldn't even allow it, but the wall is already there
Maybe why your vendor's moved!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Smiley lets be honest who's arsed?0 -
Mr Broderick, I am "arsed" which is why i asked. If you cant be "arsed" dont answer to my post.
Okay getting back to my point...i just want to know if that changes the description of my house from a link detached to a semi and if that is the case, it would then devalue my property. is that right?0 -
I'd be more worried about the impending house price crash devaluing your house not a poxy link garage...0

There is a road of houses round here called linked detached. The garage links the houses as does the room behind the garage and the rooms above the garage. In my book that makes them terraced but as they are expensive the estate agents insist on calling them link detached!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Is this forum only about the house price crash? - I better ask Martin to delete all none related threads.
I want to worry about something that has happened.
So if you anything helpful to say about my question, that would be great.
