Nope I wouldnt be happy if another woman helped choose my ring. Romantic as it is I'd rather choose my own.

Lol my close female friends all know exactly which ring I want should I ever find a man stupid enough to want to marry me :o

So I'd probably not mind their impact seeing as it might steer the unlucky man in the right direction :p

I don't see the issue with taking a female friend. I assume ultimately it will be you chosing the ring, not her, but she is coming with you for support as friends do?

I wouldn't have minded at all if my husband had taken a female friend with him to choose my ring. He picked a beautiful one as he has great taste. He had an idea of the style that was right for me so I'm sure he wouldn't have picked anything horrendous. In any case, any ring would have been beautiful to me because it was chosen by him to show me his desire to commit to being with me forever and that gesture made any ring symbolising his feelings absolutely gorgeous.

I once went with my best male friend to help pick his girlfriends engagement- his girlfriend was my sister but none of us thought it was odd that I had gone with him to help him choose! He wanted a second opinion on the ring and as I know her and her taste so well I seemed the obvious choice! The only funny thing was the sales person did think we were a couple!!:rotfl:

Good luck OP- and make sure you come back with an update!

Oh and back to your original question I would probably say put it on a card- just make sure you don't leave your bank statement laying about/ online banking page open!!

I'd pay on card. There's nothing wrong with taking a friend :)

Unless you're getting a ring cheap enough to not worry about carrying the cash of course, though I doubt you'd have asked the question if you were. You can always ask for a discount and still pay by card :)

I was discussing engagement rings with younger colleagues recently. I was most surprised by the fact that its the norm these days for the man to buy and choose the ring and then make the proposal. When we decided to get married it was choose your own.
But in answer to the question. Use a credit card. If you are happy that your girlfriend won't have a problem with your friend being involved then I hope you have a great future together and congratulations.

Have you considered getting a second hand one? Mine is almost 1 carat solitaire diamond, got it for less than a grand off ebay. Its a good quality diamond too, good colour and clarity.

  • I'd think it more romantic to be offered a ring that had been chosen for me, with or without help, than to have to go shopping for one.

I'm a sucker for the surprise proposal, bended knee, in public, with a box being produced from a pocket.

Not that it's ever going to happen to me - but that's the way I'd like it to happen if it did.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I would absolutely hate that! That and one of those flash mobs. While it's cool to see, if the attention was focused on me like that, I'd cringe.

I also personally wouldn't like it if my DH had took another female with him whilst ring shopping. For someone else other than my DH or myself to have chosen my ring would have been a big no no.

I wonder how the OP's getting on?
