My other mistake was PIC at about the same time. I bought because one of the directors I knew had bought (I used to work there & saw in the press he'd bought shed loads). I sold & made about £1K from my £4K investment - 18 months later it would have been worth over £65K - enough to buy 1 1/2 decent semi detached houses back then.
Bummer!
We have all been there - selling to early. Some famous stockmarket guru (might have been Warren Buffet) said the stockmarket was a way of transferring wealth from the impatient to the patient. Oh so true, so true. Now I have learned to buy and wait, because if you buy a share and the reasons you bought it are still valid then hold on to it.The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -

Marriage? ...... Well I am single currently :rotfl:
I think the posters on here should start a stocks 'n' shares thread
Thats a very bad idea a large proportion of people on this site cant manage money for toffee and its not a good idea recommending shares. It is a form of gambling after all. Plus as I said share tips are a bit useless there is no guarentee of the source and even if your convinced that all signed lead to a gain things can go wrong, stock market crash, company fraud, or simply you might think its good and it might be good but it needs everyone else to think its good for prices to go up. For instance other gambling companies could drown out 888 destroying there profitability or logica could get no new contracts ever again, theres always risk.
Its a date miss

Yes but dragon could have gone under as well as succeeded, the risk was there and yet theres a small profit here, where do your scales lie. As a lowly student I took the money.0 -

When you need the money you have to take it!
Look at this for a horror story
May 2007 Carter and Carter (CART) worth almost £13.00 a share
today they are 52p
What happened...death of founder
"Mr Carter, his son and Mr Waller were reported missing after failing to return from watching Chelsea play Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final game at Anfield.
Mr Carter is founder of firm Carter & Carter, and one of eight honorary vice presidents of Chelsea Football Club. His firm specialises in vocational training, and employs more than 500 people in Nottingham. "
A date eh?

I made money on CART last week, in at 240p on Monday, out at 290p on Thursday. (To be honest, I'd been moving my stop loss every few hours, it fired at 290 when there was on oscillation). Sadly today, trading was halted and stop-losses didn't save peeps.0 -

You did well to make money - a very high maintenance share in terms of time. Yes sad story all round. Many investors have lost a lot of money and the widow and family must be in quite a state with this happening so soon after their sad losses. The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -
Another one i remember holding was Thus for ages i sold and then it shot up! I never get the luck to get a multi multi blagger. Most i ever made was on White young(why.L)I made about 3.5k. Most of the other shares i have held i have made in the .5-1k range and i have only had a few stinkers that i have lost on. Maybe a thread should be started with peoples profit/loss over a period of time. It would be interesting to see!0

Since i started this thread here is a question to all of you, I have stated my Financial position whats is yours: ie total worth and your age and where do you want to be in the next 3-5 years. I am not being big headed but i think i have done ok but i could of done better. I think with a bit of luck i could be up to 160-200k by now. I spent a lot of money on stuff when i was 23-26 that i really did not need!0

>whats is yours: ie total worth and your age<
£257,000 and 42. <shame/>
<where do you want to be in the next 3-5 years>
£500,000 by 50 is my mantra.0 -
My total worth - probably about 10K (ignoring capital on the house as the house prices will crash and soon and any money at risk)
Where I want to be in 3-5 years
30K would be cool
by 40 I want to have my house paid off and to quit doing complicated jobs, go for a simpler life perhaps overseas. ie semi retired0
