If a local restaurant serves halal meat without advertising it

It does matter to Christians and Sikhs who are forbidden from eating food killed in the name of a false idol
that's a sweeping statement, bet most Christians wouldn't care less, they probably care more about the fact the animal isn't stunned but then what did we do before they stunned animals.
more information on labelling

Can anyone tell me why halal meat is being used so much now though after all these decades of using the usual way of slaughter? Is it a cheaper way - that's the usual reason behind big companies using one thing against another - profit!
Costco sells Halal chicken and its more expensive than non Halal so probably not down to profit on its own.0 -

Sikhs are forbidden to eat any meat slaughtered ritually.
To say Christians are forbidden to eat Halal because it "killed in the name of a false idol" shows an ignorance about the origins of Christianity and Islam.
Christianity, Islam and indeed Judaism all have the same origin and the same God.

As for the argument about animal welfare, the meat used in things like this will be the cheapest possible and therefore will be kept in the worst, most inhumane conditions imaginable.
To then complain about the animals suffering for a few seconds at slaughter is ridicules, quite aside from the fact that 90% of Halal meat in the UK is pre-stunned anyway.
Yes, people should be informed about the food they are eating, but most objections to Halal are down to ignorance and bigotry.0 -
it's all very hypocritical, animals are treated very badly, live in appalling conditions. I don't think the way they are killed makes that much difference to their suffering, it's the way they live that matters.
All this fuss about halal is just a way of directing attention away from the real issues around animal welfare.0 -

I would possibly see not labelling food, if it was Halal, as illegal under some race relations mumbo jumbo; in regards to Sikhs not being allowed to eat it.
My main concern with food is that it's the right animal..0 -

One reason is globalisation and the rise of large corporate organisations, driving costs to the bone to produce cheap food.
If you are producing meat to sell to muslim and non-muslim customers (e.g. New Zealand lamb where a significant proportion is sold to the middle east), then it is much more efficient to have a single supply chain. If you tried to run two supply chains (halal and non-halal) not only would your costs be significantly greater, you would risk mixing up the two.
If you are running a restaurant, producing ready meals, or retailing meat to price sensitive customers you are just going to buy whatever is cheapest, halal, non-halal, horse, etc. Now you may say that customer's want to know and will shop accordingly. Nonsense, they buy cheap. Morrissons didn't get caught up in the horse meat scandal, and although customers were initially attracted to Morrissons, they have been rapidly deserted them and sales have fallen through the floor.
The other reason is the changing population of the UK over the last few decades. It makes obvious commercial sense that if you are a operating a business in an area with a significant muslim population (e.g. a Subway franchisee) then either you sell halal food or you don't sell anything at all to the majority of your customer base.0 -

According to the RSPCA it does, and they campaign for all animals to be stunned before slaughter.
