Aaah! Cruise control!
What nobody will tell you about cruise control is, it eliminates the first stage of slowing down.
That first stage being, coming off the gas!
If using cruise control, when one is presented with a problem, one has to go straight to the second stage of slowing...that of using the brake.
Hence why many feel a sense of 'panic' as the right foot tries to find the brake pedal...usually resulting in a sudden, excessive application.
Fine if you have it, use it [to save getting cramps, for example] but, like most things automotive these days, the upside is always balanced by the hidden downside?
[Nobody likes to think of the downsides, do they?]No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Why do you have to go straight to the second stage?
the first stage ie coming off the gas is achieved buy pressing the button on the steering wheel
Not sure I see a downside and I use CC a lot0 -
Absolutely nothing wrong with flashing your headlights at the car in the middle lane in this situation. Just says 'I am here' and may wake them up, and they may EVEN move into the correct lane! Or give you a hand gesture...
,
Why do you need to tell them you are there? They are not causing a danger to you, they are not a hazard - they are at best inconveniencing you as you have to unnecessarily change lanes to pass them.
If I see a friend in the car next to me and pip I'm also saying 'I am here', yet equally the use of it is unnecessary.0 -

You should know this, it's basic stuff and important as HGVs over 7.5 t have very different legal speed limits compared to cars and vans ie maximum 40mph on single carriageway, 50mph on Dual carriageways and 60mph (although most are restricted to 56) on motorways, knowing this simple information helps you read the road ahead rather than just react to things as they happen, this is obviously a part of your driving that you need to improve on judging by your posts in this and other topics, you seriously come across like you just haven't got a clue, driving is not just about you, it's about understanding the needs of other road users and the hazards they may present.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

A lot of vehicles have their speed limits on their vehicles. A lot of vans have their speeds voluntarily limited to 60 for fuel saving and they say so. 56 , 60 whatever. Why should it concern me?
If you are so inclined to take the advanced driving course and learn about all these nuances by all means do so. You can drive perfectly safely without knowing that a lorry is limited to 56.
They are clearly printed in the Highway Code so maybe you should show us where it says you only need to read that part if you drive a truck.
If you don't cycle can you disregard cycle lanes cause you didn't read that part?0 -

It's quite clear some people don't know how to use cruise control.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

stupid analogy. That's like saying do you ignore road markings because you're not a road builder.
hgv limits are there for information purposes of the driver behind. the limit is required knowledge of the hgv driver because they need to be aware of overtaking issues.
To say that you are not fit on the roads because you're a regular passenger car driver and you dont know the hgv limits is pedantic.
I know that they're limited. Why does the nuance matter. Some vans a voluntarily limited to 60, some are 58, hgv appear 56. It should not impair my driving ability or affect my driving one bit with or without that knowledge.
Does it affect your driving if a OAP in front drives at 25mph in a 30 road. Do you just collide into them doing 30 without observing the speed of the vehicle in front?0 -

if everyone flashed their headlights to let others know they are there. Everyone will constantly be flashing their headlights.
Given that the people have admitted to doing this to middle lane hoggers just proves they're doing it out of aggression. because you can simply move to lane 3 and overtake. It would be understandable if they were doing it to a slow moving vehicle in lane 3 as you have no other choice but to flash.
Ironic how people are judging me for my driving and the same people are admitting to aggressive road behaviour and stretching a few rules to justify it.
flashing midle lane hoggers from behind is never ever helpful or useful. it's purely to display aggression to the driver in front.0 -
