As this thread is now starting to stray away from the OP and into healthy eating ;) I'll add it to the existing Lakeland thread to keep ideas together :D

  • Ok this is my favourite forum to lurk and read and learn so I thought I might share this little gem from an email I have just received from La***and - now don't get me wrong there are things that I really like about this company and I have in the past bought things from them but I could n't believe this when I saw it -

Wait for it.........................An Electric soup maker!......................:rotfl:

Its a glorifed blender with a heating element - for £138

I was so gobsmacked I had to watch the video!

Whats wrong with a saucepan and a cheap hand blender?

Yep another thing to sit on the kitchen shelf along with the icecream maker..........the doughnut maker ................ popcorn maker.......the jam maker............

but there again it might be of use to some people I suppose:o

I got that email and my thoughts were, I have a hob, I have a pan, I have a blender, not buying that, they really should bring back the freebies for high spends.

We saw the advert last weekend....OH first thought "ooh, a gadget for the kitchen" but then realised he couldn't make his trademark french onion soup in it as he needs to caramelise the onions to make it brown...
  • I saw one in a glossy magazine, hailed as a 'must have' gadget. Made me laugh! :rotfl:No way on earth I would pay that much money!

You pays your money you takes your pick. My £4 car boot bargain pressure cooker and
£2 electric mixer does the same job so wont be buying one. Lol I should be so lucky to have £138 to spare. Unless of course it was for a washing machine. Mine went bang and joined the great scrap metal in the sky. Meanwhile whilst the pressure cooker is making my soup I am gently treading washing in the bath. Clean clothes, clean me and soup. Great life.

  • Saw one in John Lewis when we were doing our wedding list, and as I love making fresh soup my eyes lit up. On closer inspection I realised it wasn't like a slow-cooker bung it all in and it comes out fab, you still have to baby sit it and push a button to stir it from time to time. So a complete waste of time and space, a sauce pan an hand blender get pretty fantastic results with next to no extra effort.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

I can see the point for someone with a disability - hot liquids, saucepans, standing over them stirring? For some people that might be very difficult indeed (I speak as one who is getting that way!). Or someone with limited independent living skills - surely much safer. Or someone living with no hob. Or .... I can't think of another Or, but I'm working on it!

I love Winky's phrase about having to babysit a gadget!

I agree with ubamother. I was discussing this exact device with a disabled relative, for whom it could be helpful.
