Half an hour to spare.. Aldi or Lidl?

I have a precious free half an hour or so in an area where there is a Lidl and an Aldi (literally across the road from one another). I'm wondering which should I visit, I've never been to either and need some odds and sods like milk, fresh OJ, bread (usually use half and half), eggs, kitchen and toilet roll, marmite, choc spread, decaf and some fruit and veg.. Wondering if anyone could recommend which would be my best option?
I currently get a lot of my shopping delivered by Tesco and top up in the village Budgens which is overpriced so really need to get my spending under control and maybe the above could help..
I have started tracking what I spend and making note of what we are wasting, done inventories etc and of course reading lots of suggestions on MSE!

I prefer Aldi personally. Like their super 6 fruit and veg :T

Around here I would choose L!dl, the fruit and veg is always fresher than Ald! and keeps better. I also prefer their cold meats and cheeses. I would go to Ald! for jam and fish but these are just personal choices.

I don't think you will be disappointed in either. Enjoy your visit and let us know what you think.

If you like fresh bread see if the Lidl near you has an instore bakery.
And the double choc cookies (freshly baked) are gorgeous.

For basics there's probably not a lot to choose between them although I prefer Lidl as it's less busy so you don't have long queues like you do in my nearest Aldi. And Lidl tend to have a few more recognisable branded names than Aldi in my experience.
Fresh veg wise the quality and variety of both can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes it's good other times it doesn't last. I also find that you can't really do a veg list beforehand it's a bit turn up and see what they've got in.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Aldi every time for me - much more choice than our local Lidl, but our Aldi is the only supermarket in town where you have to pay to park, so I don't go often!

Lidl for me too, we have a nice new one that is a real pleasure to shop in, the nearest Aldi is not at all nice, just boxes of stuff piled up and a bit of a mess.

I've tried both but definitely prefer Lidl - if you go there make sure you try a cheese twist if they have an instore bakery as they're worth the trip alone!

I don't really shop much in Lidl as it's not that close to me so I tend to make my weekly shopping list and go to Aldi what ever they don't have for me I then carry on to my local Sainsbury's. But I might give Lidl ago soon to see what it's like I only nip in if they have an offer on I want.
