Fear of doctors!

On mobile so won't attempt to type much... KxMx, my friend had a terrible time with docs too. I feel for you. She went through agony in her early 20s (may even have been earlier). Misdiagnosed thrombosis, gallstones, and various other major (life threatening things). She lost a baby too and had at least one miscarriage due to what she believes were preventable problems
I have had little faith. Two people also told they had terminal cancer which turned (thankfully!) to be wrong. I suppose it's made me nervy!

Best laugh I had though was when a consultant asked me if I wanted to see what she could see during an examination - as I said of all the questions she could have asked me that one didn't even make the list!
I had that!! When I had my LLETZ the doc tourned the screen around so I could see the image the colposcope had produced.
I was a bit dopey on diazepam but found it really intriguing!
(and had to have a laugh at her calling my cervix my "pink mushroom" hahaha)

I get terrible nerves when I go to the doctors. The last time a female doctor said to me 'are you always this nervous?'. I wish she had said nothing. I put off going, but when symptoms don't disappear after a little while I do go and get things checked out.
I always have been regular for smears etc. They are just to important to ignore.0 -

Lol @janepig....Fire Extinguisher! :rotfl:
I'm having to have one next week. Usually have normal blood pressure & am used to doctors as I have been having cancer treatment for years. However, after an 'Over 40's' check up last week my blood pressure was very high (probably cos I was worried my blood results would be bad for sugar & cholesterol). Went back this week for blood results & blood pressure test again - cholesterol & blood sugars perfectly fine but blood pressure even higher! Nurse thinks I have white coat syndrome so I'm having portable monitor next week to see if it's a blip. She told me not to worry but now I'm stressing out about having high blood pressure - which must be sending it up - vicious circle springs to mind?0 -
Aww can't believe the amount of people with the same/similar fear. I'm very surprised she didn't check my blood pressure seeing as I'm 44 and haven't been to the docs since for several years.

I'm exactly the same. If it was ever high then I'd be probably worry about it which wouldn't do much to help I wouldn't have thought!
Hope it is just white coat syndrome and the home machine shows your blood pressure to be ok.0 -
I haven't read the whole thread, but it seems to me that it's a fear of the treatment that most people are talking about, rather than a fear of doctors.
I have a fear of doctors rather than the treatment, and with good reason, I would never trust the NHS again. The NHS Constitution pledges that:
"the fact that you have complained will not adversely affect your future treatment.”
I have emailed the DoH and asked them what policies they have in place to achieve this, but they just repeated the above phrase back at me instead of answering the question. Well there's a surprise.0 -
I used to be afraid of blood tests. Since being diagnosed as epileptic its something I had to overcome very quickly. Just relax and imagine your doctor as just a normal person who trained and worked very hard for the honour of treating you, I found that to be very helpful. I don't relish medical environments but seeing a nice tall man in a ambulance uniform cheers me up somewhat. Take care my darling and remember try to relax.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0
