I applied for the warm front grant Jan/Feb this year, had a letter in March to say I had got it, the day they started work on replacing my boiler! 2 men fitted it, 1 was treally nice and 1 was of the attitude 'youre getting it free and your a piece of poo'!! They left me in such a mess, all over my drive and hall, stuff for my dog to pick up, so in a wheelchair, I had to clean it all up. They left the screws out, on the floor, from the radiator valves, chipped my hall radiator. Then 3 days later the electricians came to fit a clock and thermostat, the clock wasnt fastened to the plate and the plate wasnt even scewed into the wall! Then the noises started. I thought it was someone outside at first, but it was my boiler. The first man to come back was here all day, because he had to redirect all the pipes as some valve was below the boiler and should have been above, but it was still very noisey. 3 more lots came, ranged from turning the boiler down, to turning the pump down, then someone from the manufacturers came he just turned the boiler down. Thats 5 visits now and it still makes noises. Then at beg Apr an inspector came, said it wasnt right, turned it back up, took my list of complaints and that was that, not heard from them since!! Dont know what to do, but I was told I couldnt have new radiators, but the grant was all used up on my 1 noisey boiler, which I feel is expensive, and they say I have to pay £30!! I think they cost me that at least every time they came back and turned up my heating to hear the noises!! Does other people think as I do they are just getting their grant money and doing as little as possible???? And what do I do now???0

I have had two surveyors come round at different times. At first they said that they will change every thing but will cost me an additional £900. Second time round they said that the water pressure is low (neighbors is ok), hence they cannot fit a Combi boiler.
They are recommending Electrical Storage heaters and i am supposed to contact WF about this. I think these installers do not want to do any work and looking for easy way out. Can any one please suggest what I need to do??

my boiler finally packed in last christmas day.i applied for a warmfront grant.after a few weeks someone came out to access. 4 weeks later someone else came out to see what wanted doing.recieved a letter saying i was to pay £88 towards it.after sending this 3 weeks later 2 young men came and fitted a new ideal isar condenser boiler as well as new thermastat, pump, new pipes and controller.also new flue to be placed elsewhere.job done in 3 days.various people came,i.e. electrician and someone to take rubbish away.few days later electrician came and put new wires in to isolate water stop tap - i think - builder to get old flue out and fill in various holes left and someone to clean radiators .fingers crossed all is well.good job done.quiet boiler now.0

My mum is 88 and frail, she lives in a bungalow with a back boiler and immersion heater for heat and central heating. My sister and I persuaded her to apply for the Warm Front grant to get a new boiler because hers is so old.
The surveyor came round and said they could do it and replace the radiator in her living room with a bigger one because when they take the fire out to get to the back boiler, she will need the extra warmth from a bigger radiator until she can get a new gas fire fitted! Funny, the only radiator they want to replace is the newest one?! Plus she would have to pay towards it.
Mum was awarded the full £2,700 grant but has been told she needs to pay £595 towards the new radiator! Despite phoning and asking Warmfront and the central heating company we cannot get a full breakdown of the costs. Its not that we don't want to pay extra to get a decent system but we cannot work out why one radiator is going to cost £595! Warmfront are helpful to a point but say it is up to the central heating company to decide. They say we can't get another quote from another of their companies and if we don't go ahead with the work she won't be allowed to apply again.
We have suggested to mum that she gets a couple of independent quotes and let Warmfront see the difference (if any). It is hard to know whether the quote is fair unless we get other ones and mum is increasingly frustrated by it all and beginning to say she'd rather not have all the hassle of a new boiler.
Having read the posts on here and articles in the press I am beginning to wonder whether she is right and she should forget the whole thing but we are worried that her system may fail and she won't be able to afford to put in a new one if Warmfront don't come up with the grant.0 -
