Gosh I didn't know that, thanks for the info! Not sure if I dare tell him and crush his dreams of building an empire on pennies though :D

    Awww bless him! :D

Some HSBC banks have machines that pay the money directly into your account and don't charge (at least I think they don't?), my local doesn't have one though. :( Don't know if other banks do this?

Thanks for the replies. I understand about not going out of your way for a few pennies, but with OH it is more a case of 'it's only £x/xp, so I won't bother'. We buy our nappies from Sainsburys and there are two within walking distance. We go there all the time, so why not just use the voucher? Even if it is just 47p, I would rather it was in my pocket than their's. Paying a cheque in now takes seconds using the machine. I like the idea of putting money saved on vouchers in a jar, so that I can show him what they all add up to.

Caught my hubby throwing his loose change in the bin once, MANY years ago! He doesn't do it anymore, and is now more frugal than I am. I have no idea how he picked up the habit of throwing it in the bin.
  • reading about people throwing away coupons has me in a cold sweat! I love my coupons/voucher/brand match/price promise. before the days of recylcing as we now know it I once walked past someone's refuse for collection and saw a large empty washing powder box with the coupon still on. I thought about that flippin coupon ALL day! Hubby would not let me go back at dusk and take it and I have never forgotten this, lol!

I enjoy the thrill of coupon/voucher use, sounds like I am a saddo! lol

Ive offered nappy coupons "free" on my local buy sell pages and they've been snapped up. Would break my heart to throw them away.

Where I live everywhere runs on coupons. There are a few shops I won't go to until I have a coupon as you get them so frequently. You can also often use them long after they've expired too. Many shops will ask you if you have a coupon, and if you don't they've often got one under the till they'll happily scan for you.

I don't have much joy with supermarket coupons though as they're usually for things I don't buy. A few weeks ago though, I was in the queue behind one of these extreme couponer-type folk. She was very organised, all the coupons will in a big folder and she was pulling them out as she was unloading the trolley. The trolley-load came to something like 120 dollars - after coupons - $4.20! I have no idea how she did it but I was impressed.

As for throwing coins away - no way! I hate carrying them though so I will dump the small change into a tub. If I'm going to Home Depot (like B&Q) or somewhere like that I'll occasionally take the tub and use it to pay for my stuff (you can dump a huge amount into the machine and it'll count it automatically. No feeding each coin in individually!).

To the poster who wanted to deposit cheques by photo - I do that here! It's very handy especially as the bank is 20 miles away.
  • I can top all of these. My m-i-l actually was stashing cash in the bureau for her holiday and chucked it away with a load of paperwork by accident

Why don't you give them to someone in the shop to use?

Hmm, haven't really thought about it. I suppose I usually just stuff the receipts etc in a bag and don't look at them until later. Usually trying to juggle shopping bags, putting purse back in handbag, making sure car keys are accessible etc while trying to get out of the way as the cashier is already chucking the next person's shopping through! Also I may be wrong but thought lots of them are related to your nectar card/club card so can't be used by someone else. Also, to be completely honest, doesn't even cross my mind! Maybe I will in future.

There seems to be someone who throws money away outside the local bakers.
Literally anything from 1p-20p we have also found £1 coins.

We have also seen people tossing coppers onto the street after coming out of the newsagents.

Every morning on the school run my 2 children collect them for their piggy banks :j
