Happy Birthday Rose 28454 :bdaycake:
Elise and others with poorly Mum's - lots of love and strength sent your way.
DS did his Taekwondo kup grading yesterday (aiming for blue belt). When it came to the free sparring one of assessors stopped and said to DS "Young man keep your speed but you are a bit full on tone it down a bit" . So then he totally slows down and stands back - so assessor stops them again and tells him its ok to go fast.
On the way home we were talking as driving - he felt sad cos he had had comments. So we looked at what went well and what he'd do different next time. When he said "I didn't understand what he meant when he said do a full onion?", "No DS he didn't say full onion", Yes he did. Then I realised 'full on young man' does sound a bit like full onion if you say it fast lol - kept us laughing for ages. Keeping fingers crossed. He'll find out on Tuesday.
Had 2 close encounters with live mice in last 24 hours thanks to my cats grrr - one in my boot which I found trying to get them on. eek. And one early hours of the morning - tried to save it from behind the radiator in hallway (up the wall - how'd it hold on..). Anyhow it suddenly ran off under door into kitchen - got in straight away but no sign - gave up and went to bed - so white goods out tonight and hopefully catch it. Its fast - might have to let the cats assist after all.......:o
Not going out - so happy gllitching to all you peeps. Off to get DD.0 -
Looks like we all have our troubles.
My Mum is in a nursing home. She has a very bad chest infection again.
She was screaming the place down the other night because she thought the carer was a ghost.
It's so sad to hear from Elsie, Savvy Sal and others about the awful realities of caring for distressed, elderly parents. I applaud anyone having to cope with seeing their parents like this, even when they have support, and how anyone manages to do this at home I really don't know.
I wish more people realised just how difficult it is to care for people with dementia and that as a society we put far more thought and resources into ensuring they, and their families, are properly supported.
My dd (mid 20s) works as an activities co-ordinator in a home for people who are elderly and/or suffer from dementia. She comes back with stories about the people she cares for every day, some of which are heartbreaking but many of which are heart-warming beyond belief.
I've met several of the residents at fund-raising activities my dd organises and they (and their relatives) obviously value my dd highly. It works both ways because she loves her job and cares deeply about the people she works with.
What saddens me is that, although she is doing everything she can to care for residents and give them the best quality of life she can, the activities budget is minuscule and she is on little over minimum wage. That is despite the fact that she is a graduate and is frequently being spat, shouted and screamed at, scratched, punched, kicked, urinated on and vomited over.
I'm so proud of her for putting caring and job satisfaction above financial gain but I do worry about her future and mine too - I certainly dread getting old and/or suffering from dementia.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Happy birthday Rose
Thanks to Karlie I've just set up the TSB account with the 5% interest. A portion of my PPI will be going straight in. I love being financially responsible and seeing my money go into all these little pots. It's so satisfyingDebt free 6th December 2014
