As a business you can choose whether to refund or replace, legally either option is acceptable. Personally on eBay I would check with the buyer first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So all buyers of non-tracked iterms now message their sellers to say INR and expect full refund.
No case needs to even be opened.
Even if they have let it slip that their item did indeed arrive by leaving +FB. Wow.0 -

No, not all buyers do that you are over reacting, if they did then none of us would be selling online.
You can ask the buyer to open a case if you wish, you can't be forced to refund without a case being opened especially as they have already left feedback . However those cases will count towards your defect rate , and that is causing a lot of us sellers concerns.
Feedback is immaterial, I have certainly left feedback accidentally both as a buyer and a seller and I am sure I am not alone in that. Yu don't know whether this buyer is telling lies or not, and since you can't prove it either way you are best to deal with it as best you can without causing more problems for yourself.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I used to think that after +FB had been left you could move on. That was closure, transaction concluded. Obviously not.0

Plenty of people leave generic feedback just cos eBay's site shows it as outstanding. If they've bought other stuff its easy enough to fill in the wrong one especially if its non specific to the item.
Luckily eBay seem to realise that too and don't take much notice of the feedback in inr cases0 -
So when do you think transaction should be concluded?0
-
Have you even bothered to ask why they left feedback for something they say they never received? Might be a bit more useful than asking people on here about what they think.
Doesn't really matter when we think a transaction is concluded, only when eBay/PayPal say it is , if you sell via them. And that's only final when no appeals can be made

This is an ebay forum, it is set up for people to ask questions of an ebay nature. Thats why I asked a question of an ebay nature on here. Thats what the forum is for. Its an ebay forum.
So you agree with ebay or paypals decision (whatever it may be) on when the transaction is over and done with.
Thats an opinion, thanks very much.0 -

I don't think anyone is defending ebay or paypal. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of their approach, the current situation is that if you can't prove delivery you will lose a case.
however, you don't have to roll over on the receipt of a message.
I would respond to the message and say something along the lines of "thanks for your message, I can see you left feedback indicating item received on XXX, if you want to dispute the feedback you have left, please open a case for item not received". This may deter the serial scammer.
you can also contact other sellers the buyer has bought from and see if they regularly have difficulty receiving items. If that is the case, and several members report the buyer to ebay, they are more likely to act.0 -
to the OP.... We have had this in the past. mostly due too an error on the buyers side /not inr. However we have had feedback and inr claimed. if the feedback was specific and not generic ebay would side with the seller.
eg. feedback left "nice fluffy slippers, received promptly"
Obvious from the above feedback example the buyer has the slippers lol
Also they will side with the seller if there is info in "ebay my messages" if the buyer admits to receiving the item. Regardless of tracking.0
