Orange Signal non-existant

My wife has an Orange phone on PAYG - an ancient Nokia 3210 - anyway, her signal, at home is now virtually non-existant

I have scanned for a new signal and EE doesn't appear on her list of connections - only Orange + virgin
I am assuming that the Orange transmitter has been switched off - in favour of an EE one ?
Is there any requirement for EE to replace the SIM free of any changes in contract to allow my wife to connect to EE ?

if it can see orange, it should connect. wonder if the sim has either been cut off or gone faulty.

It does connect to Orange (up to 5 bars) elsewhere - just not at home ....
previously (last year and before) - it had up to 4 bars at home - now she has to wander around the garden to get a connection !!
The orange signal strength map shows a good 3G signal both indoors and outdoors !!
I have emailed EE to ask them for advice

EE is a 3G & 4G network - Orange and T Mobile still provide a 2G service, this explains why the phone doesn't receive it.

Surely - you are aware that EE replaced Orange and Tmobile last year ?

I think the point is that if you only now get a 3g or 4g signal at home then you won't get a signal on a 2g phone such as an old Nokia unless you go to where there are 2g signals.
The answer will be to replace the phone with a 3g one

You could give them a ring and find out if anything has happened locally that would affect her signal at home. I had similar problems of very poor or non-existent signal at home despite their coverage maps saying I should have great signal. When I rang, the guy I spoke to was very helpful and able to tell me that a local transmitter was faulty so had been switched off, which was probably the cause of the problem. The guy told me honestly that it could be 6 months or it could be 2 years until it was fixed as they have to negotiate access to the transmitter on private land and it could be ages. I switched to a different provider in the end (I got a free PAYG SIM first to check reception).

So you are saying that just because an area has a good 3G signal - doesn't mean that a TXT can be sent/received ?
My wife only uses her phone for calling and TXT's - so why should she want a replacement
If the limiting factor is the SIM card - surely that would be the best way forwards (an EE replacement) ?

Because a 2g phone won't work unless theres a 2g signal so if it's only 3g it's not going to work
