Jeans Shopping.......... dreading it! Please HELP!

Hello lovely ladies, I don't know if this would be better posted somewhere else, but I have a problem and it's really stressing me out, like REALLY!

I really need some new jeans, so need to go in to town this afternoon and the thought of it has my stomach in knots already!

I'm 5'9'' but a size 14-16, depending on how "generous" the sizes are, but I can NEVER find jeans to fit.

Because I'm not a size 8-10, the though of wearing a pair of skinnies makes me feel sick (and make my thighs look like a pair of sausages!), so I always end up going for straight leg, or bootcut. When I do finally find a pair that I think fit, they seem fine in the shop, but of course, once I get them home and wear them in, the bum sags and the old "builders bum" seems to rear it's ugly head.

I think I might be a bit oddly shaped, in the sense that my thighs / hips, are a bit out of proportion / larger than my waist, if that makes sense?

I'd really like a pair of jeans that I can dress up a bit, i.e. wear with a pair of heels and a nice top on a night out.

Can anyone offer any advice / suggestions? I dont mind paying a bit more, maybe up to £90 if I can get a pair that will actually do me justice..... I've heard good things about Levis Bold Curve, but looking at their website they only go up to a 32" waist, and if I remember correctly, Levis sizing isn't very generous, so I can't see them fitting if I'm honest :(

Help! And TIA......

My last 2 pairs have been from Sainsburys. Good amount of stretch and they do short, standard and long leg. I think they were £18 were bootcut and have a belt. Had first pair 2 months and they seem to be washing and wearing well.

I was reading one of those comparisons articles a couple of weeks back and new look basic jeans came out very high and were only a tenner. Not been in to see what i think though.

I wear gap curvy jeans as I have a large hip to waist ratio. Not sure what size they go up to though.

It's worth having a look in fatface if you have one near you - their stuff is good quality so shouldn't 'sag' and they have a few different cuts/styles so there ought to be something to suit you. I'm a similar size to you and I find their stuff fits really well.

I've always found levis fit a bit on the small side.

I recently bought some 'boyfriend' fit jeans in sainsburys which I really like the style/fit of, but they are a thinner fabric and don't hold their shape particularly well :(

I have Fatface jeans just now and I find them pretty bad for sagging / builders bum I'm afraid. I don't know maybe I'm just choosing th wrong size / fit?

gunsandbanjos, I was thinking of trying GAP actually. i will pop in this afternoon.

I'll let you guys know how I get on , upon my return, but I'm not hopeful tbh :(

Hi, I have always struggled to find jeans to fit too. I'm the same size as you and thought I could never wear skinny jeans. My DD made me buy a pair of Jamie jeans from Topshop, the only ones that seem to fit me.

Have you tried online/catlogue companies specifically for fuller figured women, such as Simply Be or Marisota? They usually have a good range.

I've never tried them but maybe try a pair of Not Your Daughters Jeans on for fit. Some people swear by them, you have £90 but they may be a bit more, but to buy a pair of jeans you feel really good in may be worth the extra.

    Another vote for GAP.

I'm 5'11 with a size 10 bum and size 8 waist and find gap jeans are a really good fit for me, with no builders bum.

I used to like Next jeans, but find all their styles such a different fit, that you have to take about 10 pairs in with you!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Joe Browns do good jeans. Comfortable, good quality and reasonably priced too. I know they're a mail order company, but I think Debenhams sell their stuff too.
