BA Price Increase

Options
Been looking at booking flights to Vancouver with BA in September as they were coming in cheapest. However when I looked again tonight the price had went up about £70 per person each way which seems like quite a big increase overnight and will increase our holiday by a few hundred! I had a look at dates over a few weeks but the price seems to have went up on them all, not just one specific flight. Therefore I assume it's not that every flight has suddenly filled up but just a general price increase. Is this normal? Do they fluctuate a lot? Is there any chance they'll come back down again? I'm wondering whether to hold off booking or look at a different airline as BA are no longer cheapest. Or may look at a different holiday altogether as flights seem to be really dear now. Thanks

Try clearing your "cookies" and see if that helps :)

Try checking the prices say up to a week either side of your preferred date.
    They can change substantially.

Also the longer you leave your booking the higher the price will prolly be.
Last flight the missus booked for us was long haul, Business Class.
A few weeks after we booked the Premier Economy was more expensive than our Business Class seats.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

There was a "sale" on and a lot of the US flights were quite a bit cheaper than they were but seem to have gone up now with BA-Guess it was Canada too.

I'm truly shocked that didn't work.

A £70 increase overnight is nothing out of the ordinary. They might come down again or they may increase further, nobody can tell you which it's going to be.

Have you compared Virgin Atlantic prices??

Supposedly a sale on to Vancouver, fares are lower than BA at a casual glance.

£70 increase is nothing and could be due to the day of the week you look, previous visits by you and other mystical stuff.

Best is to pick a price you're happy with and buy it.:D

It also may be cheaper to fly into Seattle

Virgin had a sale on that ended this week. Competitors often reduce their fares whilst another carrier has a sale on and then increase them again when the sale is over

Oh there's no shortage of anecdotal evidence. What I've yet to see is a single example of a reproducible result.

Fares with the major airlines, are divided into price brackets.

    With BA, the fares are...

    First class: F, A
    Business: J, C, D, R, I and sometimes Z
    Premium Economy: W, E, T
Economy: Y is the highest (fully flexible) and there can be any number of fare brackets, usually about 8, but I have seen up to 16 on some larger aircraft.

It isn't unusual for a far to increase overnight as tickets are being sold 24/7. All it takes is for the airline to accept a group booking on a flight, and you can see all of economy class sell out before your eyes. It's happened to me many times when I've quoted a fare for a client, they've decided to check options with other airlines, then have opted for the first quote only to find that the fare has increased considerably or sold out completely. And all of that during a 10min phone call.

The only way a BA fare will come down in price is if they have a group cancellation or a sale.

If I were you, I'd check Momondo, Expedia, Opodo, etc for the best fares they can offer with 1 stop, and do a Skyscanner search for flights from UK to Vancouver in case the Transat flights from Manchester via Toronto would be an option for you, or even flights from another UK airport.
