I'm finding it really hard in this weather too :( I've had to abandon the paces I'm meant to be running at according to the schedule I was following because I just can't do it on hot days. Either pace or mileage had to give, just trying not to let it be both.

On the bright side, I see from my records that I'm doing better this year than I managed in last year's heatwave. Hope that means I'm on track for a PB in an autumn half :)

Huge respect for my crazy friends who did an Iron Man and a 100km ultra over the weekend. Don't know how they did it.

I usually run first thing in the morning (5 - 5.30 ish) and luckily the weather hasn't impacted on that much. I did try a couple of afternoon runs and they were absolute killers!

I am tempted to start doing this too. We did run yesterday evening around 6pm. Even then, it was rather warm.

I've increased my running over the last couple of weeks (first half marathon in October  ) and it's doable at that time of the day!
  • If people can run 135miles across Death Valley in temperatures in the mid 40's I am sure the rest of us are capable of jogging a few miles in temperatures in the mid 20's!

How's everyone doing? I'm still enjoying my early morning runs, much quieter and cooler. I haven't been running a year yet so I'll leave the Death Valley run for the complete maniacs  :rotfl:

I ran 50k at thunder run :-) I was in a team of 5. My times were nothing special but they were never going to be. The night run with a headtorch was great fun, the daytime runs were roasting and the support for the final part of the final lap brought a tear to my eye.

I ate 4 different kinds of homemade cake and 2 kinds of flapjack. It was fantastic.

Well done :) Some teams (ie, one I was in at Thunder Run and Endure24 / Run24) don't take these events seriously and see them as more of a social thing, rather than a serious running event.

A few friends did it solo. One did 70k, I think and the other did 30k. Very difficult course from what I remember.

We were firmly in the social category - just a bunch of 10 friends and friends of friends, spread across 2 teams. One had never even run 10k before and had just planned on walking a lap. We did field a competitive team one year (the club, not me. I didn't go that year) but they didn't win.

By my London road-running standards, it's a very tough course. But then, I was talking to a girl from the Pennines who said that compared to her normal terrain, it was a walk in the park. Mind you, she did faint from the heat during her first lap.
