Nokia Lumia 520 screen shattered

You are deluded. Or simply don't listen.
Any phone can be damaged by a user during normal operation: dropped, cracked when carrying in a pocket, water damaged when using under rain - and trying to get it repaired under warranty/SoGA will be a waste of time, efforts and money.
Three will say that the screen was accidentally broken by the user, and the chances are slim that any judge disagree with them if the case goes to a court.
Throwing good money after bad springs to mind.
Look at the user guide: http://download.fds-ncom.nokia.com/supportFiles/phones/files/pdf_guides/devices/Lumia520/Nokia_Lumia_520_UG_en_GB.pdf
The phone is designed to have the back taken off, as shown on page 7/8, which places it under stress. (The picture shows you putting your thumb against the glass to open it.)
In contrast, it is not designed to be dropped, got wet, etc. In fact it specifically says not to do that on page 101.
(Also on page 101 it says to open the phone and take out the battery from time to time.)
So, that's what the phone's instructions say; call it deluded if you like...0 -
I've never seen this phone, and cannot check, but nowhere does it say to press the screen. In fact it says "Press the middle of the back cover, and bend the cover..."
I tried doing something similar with another phone, and indeed it's the middle of the back cover, not the screen, that has to be pressed to bend the back cover.0 -
Ive got a 520 and the back is no more difficult to get off than any other one ive had. Screen certainly hasn't been under any stress.
Maybe you might have more luck with Nokia?0 -

I've just tried it, and if you do it that way, then it is entirely possible to press on the screen. (I would suggest that holding the edges would be better, and in that case the instructions are bad.)0 -
The pictures clearly show the body of the phone being held with the thumb on the screen.

Nokia wanted to charge me £89 for repair. Total rip off as the phone to buy is the same price. Ridiculous. A case of big firms charging the earth for "official" repairs when other replacements would probably do the same job just as well but cheaper. yes, I know this might void the warranty but in my case, the phone doesn't work anyway so who cares?0 -

The £89 is a subsidised price...====0 -
£83 at SimplyElectronics, so I don't see how £89 is 'subsidised'
BTW disassembling takes just a couple of minutes on Youtube and a spare digitiser is ~£10 on Ebay, so £89 for this is a daylight robbery.0 -
