Which is best - Galaxy S3 or S4 mini?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note on contract with O2 which is due for an upgrade now. I currently pay £22 a month for 100 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data.

I'm looking for a new phone and would like to stick with Samsung but can't afford the new S5! I'd like a smaller phone than the Note this time and a few more minutes but I don't want to pay more than I'm paying now. I can't afford to buy a handset outright.

My husband and sister both have the Galaxy S3 which they like. I can get one for £18 a month from Carphone Warehouse (500mins, unltd texts & 500mb data). I realise the S3 is an older phone now so I'm not sure if it's worth paying £18 a month for the next 2 years for one? I can also get the S4 mini on the same deal but have read some poor reviews of it. Which phone would people recommend, or is there something else I should be looking at?

Preference for the S3 over a mini phone if you hold both in your hand .

Thanks for this, looking at the specs it seems the S3 is the better phone. I just wasn't sure if it's worth paying £18 a month for a phone that is already 2 years old. :undecided

Nexus 5 free with more minutes for £18.99 over 24 months would be better or even the S4 which cost £44.99 up front.

Thanks very much for that but they're both with EE and from what I've read on here about their customer service I don't think I want to change to them, would rather stay with O2! Think I may end up going sim-only for a while until I can afford a better phone.

I was wondering this when I was trying to decide last year how to use my expiring Clubcard vouchers. I did some forum research via Google and it seemed the S3 won hands down. It has a larger screen and unless your going to pay extra for the 4G (in which case get a better phone for this with a larger screen!) the S3 was just far more liked.

I don't feel like I've regretted my choice and think the S3 is a decent phone, would buy Samsung again.

I'd certainly advise you take a look at the Moto G, x or Nexus 5.

All come in at very reasonable price if you can push your budget to buying them sim free.

From there, go with a sim only deal and break the shackles of being tied to a network for 2 years.

Most of those are just bloatware that take up quite a chunk of the memory on the phone. Why do you think Samsung devices are prone to freezing, there is so much rubbish taking up memory.

In terms of hardware and specs, the S3 is much better than the S4 mini.
On the latest version of Android the S3 struggles a little at times but it's still a great phone. A Nexus 4 would be a better choice at a similar price due to the 2GB of RAM.

I would second the Motorola Moto G , its a great phone for the price, £12.50p/month on Tesco ( o2 network ) for 500 mins , 5000 texts and 500mb data.

My two previous mobiles were the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One, and believe it or not, I much prefer the Moto G.

In answer to the original question ....the S3 is better than the S4 Mini.
