Convert hdmi to rca??
Comments

Appreciate all the advice with this folks.
I think my safest option, as suggested, is just to buy a DVD / BR player that takes an HDMI connection and get on with it. If I can then link it up to the Amp I will, if not, put it down to experience.
Just checked the paperwork at time of house move.
The TV is Sharp Aquos 40" LC - 40LE600E
The Amplifier is a Sony DAV-S550 home theatre system surround 5.1
in case that adds anything to the advice.
Otherwise, cheers.0 -
I just looked at the TV manual - it says that it has component video inputs ("Ext3" = Y/Pb(Cb)/Pr(Cr) & L-R Audio) , so it should just be a matter of getting an RGB RCA-RCA (phono) video cable.
It's also got RCA-RCA audio cable (red & white), which should go to the amp's corresponding Audio inputs.
Might be worth double-checking before buying a new player...0 -
You want something like this to take the video to the TV

And something like this for the audio:

Without checking if the DVD player needs to be set up in a particular way, the video goes in the red green and blue sockets in the Component Video Out section of the DVD player, at the bottom kind of two thirds of the way along the back panel. The audio goes in the red and white sockets in the Video 2 section just above it.0 -
Wonder would this work - plug the hdmi cable that is already there and connected to the TV and tracked into one end and the other end into the Amp?

Short answer: No
Long answer: No. It's HDMI to composite, not the other way round. Converting from analogue to digital isn't going to be happening in a £20 box. And even if it did work, which it wont, it's composite video, which will look awful.0 -

You were given a link in post 20 that pointed to a device that would work; i.e component to HDMI.
Here's a slightly cheaper one http://www.amazon.co.uk/eSynic%C2%AE-Component-Video-Converter-Adapter/dp/B00AZHNUIW/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1398382806&sr=1-5&keywords=component+to+hdmi
Some of the reviews suggest it doesn't do the picture any favours though.0 -
And in any event, if the DVD player outputs component over standard RCA cables, and the TV accepts component input over standard RCA cables, why buy a nasty box that wont work and/or will look horrible.0
