Would appreciate if anyone could help if you have a clue what I am on about.
I bought a house and with it a wall mounted TV and amplifier/surround sound off the owner. The amplifier also acts as a DVD player. There is an HDMI lead already tracked to the TV but there is no scart socket on the back of the Amplifier to connect the 2 and consequently I cant get the dvd/amplifier to work.
Am I able to get a device/converter that the HDMI lead plugs into which in turn plugs into the red yellow and white sockets at back of dvd player?
TIA

A DVD player without an HDMI output must be pretty old, and they're about thirty quid. Is it worth messing about, especially as the quality will be lower and the device quite complex (it'll have to frame-grab the analogue output and digitise it, given HDMI is a purely digital connection).0

Are you suggesting that I remove the HMDI cable already there and then put the scart type end of the ebay one in the TV and the red yellow white directly in the DVD player?0 -
Yeah, ditching it is an option - just wanted to try to make this work first because the surround sound is all set up and attached to this amplifier.securityguy wrote: »A DVD player without an HDMI output must be pretty old, and they're about thirty quid. Unless your device outputs the RCA signals over HDMI - it probably won't work. These cheap odd converters never do.The_Listing wrote:Note: Unidirectional HDMI in to 5 RCA out. This cable don't own the chip to convert digital signals to analog signals, so it only fits for the devices which itself can convert digital signals to analog signals, for example SET TOP BOX (STB)Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Surely the HDMI is intended for playing back from the DVD/Amp to the TV, and plugs into an output from the DVD/Amp?
Why are you looking to connect an extra SCART between them?
What make and model are the TV and DVD/Amp?0 -
I have an old Cambridge Audio DVD player that connects to my TV using old fashioned Red/Green/Blue + Red/White component leads, and the quality is fine.
And at some point it has to get converted to digital anyway.
Are you saying the amp doesn't have YPbPr connections?0 -
You need to know what you have better.
RCA is a socket shape not a format. It could be composite (which if coloured would be white, red and yellow) or component/YPbPr (which if coloured should be red, green, blue, 2nd red and white)
Composite is terrible picture quality and is ancient. YPbPr is reasonable picture quality and for DVD will not be far off of what HDMI would be.
Why are you trying to use scart? If there is an embedded HDMI cable I suspect the all in one box has a HDMI port.0 -
I have a HDMI to RCA RGB component converter which I bought on ebay; I use it between my Sky HD box and my ageing (but excellent) Panasonic Plasma screen.
My screen also has a VGA connector, and I run a small computer to that as a DVD player.0 -
In work so not sure of the makes (we bought them off the owner at the time).Surely the HDMI is intended for playing back from the DVD/Amp to the TV, and plugs into an output from the DVD/Amp?

As you have said I am used to just conecting a Scart / HDMI direct form DVD to TV. In this instance the HDMI is in the back of the TV and the other end is lying unconnected to anything - there is no obvious scart fitting in the back of the Amp.....so to connect the TV and Amp I assumed I would need to get a converter of some description.0
