I never say `I think` when I buy and sell shares, I am purely TA. There was a nice gap up to the top of the trend channel, so that was good enough for me as it then brought my AZN holding to 10% of the sipp holding (too high a %) and selling half also captured the profits. AZN will be re bought if it falls to the bottom of the channel and that could well happen, as it may never be sold to pfizer. I similarly sold VOD at 290 and I bought a few yesterday at 218. Got to make the money work in order to keep the sipp growing (and yes I do knit and bake cakes)

sorry to 'think' Kittie, but i am thinking of jumping on board AstraZeneca despite the rise. current price is 47.78p and Pfizer have offered 50p/share....the market must doubt the deal going through, but i reckon it will, possibly for a bid that is higher still.

I'm holding. Pfizer are desparate to buy and they have loads/unlimitless money. Even if it falls through AZN shares could go a lot higher in the next 10 years - pharmaceuticals are a safe bet.

Good times for shareholders but I'm not sure it'll be good for the future of healthcare.

i hope you are right. i may add to Glaxo too at some stage this year. im happy to have these 2 as long-term holds, but i have bought Astra at a much higher price than they were recently, so kind of hoping i don't require any healthcare myself in the near future;)

Nevertheless not much reaction to the news of AstraZeneca rejecting their bid - like you said the market was probably expecting just that, planteria.
It's a decent play though for the long term. My only hesitation in getting in now is that it's up 23% in the last week itself.

Actually, those values are pounds and not pence per share ;)

I reckon Pfizer would have to bid at least £55/share to win over the institutional shareholders.

agree yatinsardana... i wish i'd bought in earlier, and should have done. but i reckon that Pfizer want Astra enough to satisfy the institutions Dosh. the next move will be interesting.

Well, I continue to hold. I reckon there is long term value in AZN once the next 2/3 years are over. Pfizer must think so too, although I know there are tax advantages for them. If it comes to it, I shall vote against the deal, since I think the sp will be permanently improved by this action, though it will undoubtedly fall back if it falls through.

If Pfizer win I expect them to be Krafty which would be a shame.
