My wife and I have just started trying for a baby, and we've always had to use KY jelly during intercourse.....
I've read lots of conflicting info on the net, so was wondering if anyone in the know can help to advise us.... does using this lubricant affect our chances of conception or not???
Thanks in advance

last week i watched "make me a baby " its a on going programe weekly on NOW the box i think its on teresteral tv and they said yes it does , I was shocked as we use it and we had been also trying ...watch it its good very interestingDon't sweat the small stuff, Its all small stuff.0 -
Vaginal lubricants are not a good idea as many kill sperm. KY-Jelly as well as specifically spermicidal lubricants are toxic to sperm, and even saliva can impair sperm motility.
You can get sperm friendly lubricants. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I also watched the programme Make Me a Baby and I can completely agree with the fact that lubricants do reduce the chance of getting pregnant.
We got pregnant immediately with my first and didn't use lubricants, After childbirth you often find your body isn't the same and we needed lubricants afterwards for comfort and the second baby took nearly a year to conceive, and we got pregnant on the only night we didn't use lubricants, so I think there is a huge reduction in the chance of getting pregnant when using it.
I would suggest getting nicely drunk, watching a good movie and having a good time if you know what I mean! It is possible not to use KY you just need to experiment on getting in the mood etc.
Good luck0 -
OMG who else is blushing?! :rotfl:
Well, I always used KY with my ex and I only had sex ONCE to conceive without protection. GP told me to start trying young 'cos I'd had problems and we really did conceive the absolute first time! I'm getting sterilised at 28 if I haven't met someone desperate for a kid by that age...
I'd say the bit about spermicides makes sense so do check that out by googling. A lubricant that is safe for sperm would definetely help conception if you think about it logically. I don't really want to spell it all out though
I also don't want to spell out the ways in which to encourage natural lubrication but if you can't find a way to get enough of this without needing artificial lubricant then I'd suggest emailing Dear Deidre at the Sun online as she's a sex specialist agony aunt that responds to all emails. Not all women can produce enough no matter what the stimulation but I thought it was worth a mention. (She should "arrive" before intercourse ideally!)0 -
If you want to use a lubricant, try egg white - seriously! I'm not having you on. Just make sure it's room temp and not straight from the fridge!0

KY isn't a spermicide though.... Spermicide and lubricant (KY etc) are two totally different things.

Thanks for all the replies so far....
Yes this is the problem.... I'm reading both in this forum and elsewhere online that lubricants contain spermicides, but I'm also reading that it's a common misconseption with KY jelly, which does not contain spermicides.0 -
