After being with SKY for many years, TV only, I took great pleasure in telling them I've had enough and to shove their subscription where the sun don't shine!!
The final straw only came to light last week when my o2 broadband was migrated to SKY and they then proceeded to penalise me for not having SKY Talk and SKY TV!!!! Do they even bother checking?
Well after about an hour or so trying to cancel my subscription, because I couldn't remember my unique password "I'm not allowed to give you any hints" she told me, I was boiling. I finally managed to give her the correct password which I set up some 15 years ago and told her there and then to shove the subscription and don't even bother to offer any incentive to stay yet she still tried, bless her. I then told her I want my MAC code to go to another broadband supplier too.
That was hard work!!!

If the OP logs into their My Sky account they should be able to turn off all the marketing preferences. This should reduce/stop the correspondence they get from Sky.0 -
I was migrated from O2 to Sky broadband and I didn't have TV or phone with them.
How were you penalised? I had no change whatsoever to my broadband cost, so not sure how they penalised you. A lot of people will have gone from having some sort of cap on their broadband to having totally unlimited, so most would have gained, not lost.
Ultimately I was going to leave to go to BT Infinity, but they did me a great deal on Sky Fibre (without TV), so staying for another 12 months at least.0 -
I was paying £9.50 per month for BB with o2 yet Sky are only charging £7.50 per month reduced to £6.50 as an incentive, which on the face of it is a good deal, but are penalising me a further £5.00 per month for not having Sky Talk and a further £2.50 per month for not having Sky TV.
Now maths was never my strong point, but even by deducting £2.50 per month, as I was a Sky TV customer, I can still work out that it is costing me more!!!0 -
Broadband was unlimited with o2.0

Did that not depend on when you joined and on what plan?0 -
Dumping sky is a very satisfying and financially rewarding experience according to several people I know who have done it.
I often try and get people to do an audit of how many programmes they watch on each channel and it's amazing how many families watch little or nothing on channels that are not available free. Once they do become aware, ditching sky is just common sense. (Obviously this doesn't apply to sports fans.)
The problem seems to be that a lot of people haven't really caught up with just how many channels are free to watch, now. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I joined o2 quite a few years ago and I was on a good deal, as my wife had an o2 payg phone which reduced the cost, but why should Sky penalise me! They bought o2 BB and it's customer base knowing people were getting discounts but will not honour any of them. Just seen their latest advert on the TV offering people BB at £3.75 per month for new customers but yet again you must have SKY Talk to get the offer. Well I was a new customer and all they offered was £1.00 discount and a £5.00 penalty!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrr
So glad I told them to shove it.0 -

Totally agree with the above. Sky shot themselves in the foot this time, as they showed me the light.0 -
SKY are a real PITA! My father uses them for skysports etc and pays through the nose, he also uses them for BB but they give him a carp speed!
I literally live less than 100 feet further away than him and get a BB speed of more than 11 times what he has (he gets about 1.5 Meg).
After many many many discussions with my Father I've convinced him that leaving SKY is the best option. And after that it was then a fight with SKY.
Took me in total about 3 months to get it resolved from start to finish (this includes convincing Dad), I now have a setup for him to watch all the Golf he wants and he has a much better BB speed0
