Missed letter from parking company (UKPC) now have a debt collectors letter

Options
I've only just opened a letter that had a letter from the parking company saying I've got until Friday 18th April to pay. Obviously that date has now gone and today I received a letter from DRP (debt recovery plus).

I've already taken a good look round the forums to see if my quesiton could be answered. Unfortunately couldn't find anything.

Using the template "letter to debt collectors" from another topic on this forum (won't allow me to post link), I'm going to be sending the letter to the debt recovery plus company first thing tomorrow.

My question is: What do I do with regards to contacting the parking company (UK Parking Control Ltd)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't do anything, UKPC are toothless and always give up eventually.

  • This is the thing, I'm hearing and reading mixed advice... are there any recent examples of how the above scenario has played out?

just read the NEWBIES sticky thread at the top of this forum as there is a whole section in there about debt collectors (who cannot do anything about this) and it contains the latest advice (which is not mixed advice either)

you can deny the debt to UKPC if you wish, or ignore them for now

do not ignore any more pcn,s if you get any new ones

also do not ignore any LBC or court papers

but you can ignore anything from DR+

bear in mind they have up to 6 years to take people to small claims court, so you rarely find somebody coming back here after 73 months to say they are in the clear

I doubt that UKPC will go to court though, and DR+ cannot take you to court as they are not the landowner or the parking company

this https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4814108 is the topic you read and posted in ,

also have a read of the lazydaisy thread in the crabman sticky thread at the top of the forum as well

ie:- do the research and learn

you can send the template letter in the NEWBIES sticky thread to UKPC, they will probably deny the appeal due to the time limit of 28 days having run out, but that way you will have tried and have written proof of doing so

Can't help what garbage you are hearing or reading elsewhere. UKPC has never taken anyone to court over an unpaid fake parking fine, no-one, nada, zip, zilch, not a sausage.

As redx says, none of us can predict the future, and no-one remembers to come back here to tell us that a fake parking fine they ignored 6 years ago is now statute-barred, but given that UKPC issues tens of thousands of these things every year and has never yet taken a single one beyond a few debt collectors' letters you would have to be staggeringly unlucky to be their first ever.

If you choose not to believe that then that's your problem. Not that there's anything you can do now anyway.

  • Just so that I'm the right side of the law, what is the best thing to do now - bear in mind that I'm now past the date of appeal? Should I still send them a letter, and if so - what's the best letter to send (there are so bloody many :()

send the dr+ letter by daisy to dr+ . send the coupon-mad letter to ukpc , job done , already mentioned this earlier

if they wanted to they could issue a popla code, but they will deny your appeal so you have little option but to ignore

keep all correspondence so far for the next 6 years, and wait and see if any LBC or court papers arrive, already told you this too

the last thing you do (which you would know already if you had read the NEWBIES sticky thread), is to complain to the landowner or retailer and get the charge cancelled
  • I'll send the two letters tomorrow. Really appreciate everyone's help.

If you want to read all the other threads from people posting exactly the same, please search this forum for 'UKPC Recovery'. This is covered too often...

No, just send the letters you have been advised to and DO NOT USE RECORDED DELIVERY. The reason is that PPCs often refuse to sign for them and so they aren't delivered.

Just to pick you up on one of your earlier comments about "staying on the right side of the law" - this is a scam and you have done nothing wrong so please stop thinking you have to "stay on the right side of the law".
