I moved to a house in glasgow 6 months ago with a 6 months contract, one month later i lost my job, i was unemployed for 3 months, during this time i could not pay the full £850 rent, so i paid half and paid the rest later in the month, i sold my car and everything i could to stay afloat. Early in march i got back into work but my landlord wont allow me to stay in the property and i was served with a letter saying my contract was not being extended.
Its been a struggle finding a house to rent, i have a daughter who just joined a new school so i dont want to move her again, i even asked if the landlord would let me have the hpuse an extra 5 days so i could go for another property and i was told no.
There is only one house avalale to rent hat is avilable immediately and i dont really like it.
What would happen if i stayed in the house an extra few days, would there be any drastic consequences or costs?
cheers
P.S everytime i use this forum i get blasted and ridiculed by the haters, if you dont like my post and if you dont like my circumstances then please refrain from being nasty. :rotfl:

The biggest risk is not getting a reference from your current landlord. Without that, and with history of failing to pay the rent on time AND squatting I think you'll make your housing situation worse.0

First things first, what type of tenancy do you have? If you're not sure you can use the tenancy checker on Shelter Scotland's website.
http://scotland.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/advice_topics/renting_rights/about_your_tenancy_rights/what_kind_of_tenancy_do_i_have
What exactly does the letter from your LL say as it has to include specific information in order to start the process of eviction.
You don't have to leave at the end of the notice period. The landlord would have to apply to the sheriff court for an eviction order which can take a couple of months.0 -
Also I wouldn't worry too much about getting a bad reference. If you find somewhere else to rent and you're current landlord wants you out it would be pretty daft of the to be vindictive and give you a bad reference.0

The reference will be written before i squat, another house i have seen has an entry date one day after my leaving date.
Its a short assured tenancy, 1 1/2 months before the end date i got the moving out letter, im also supposed to clear my council tax bill and energy bills before i get my deposit back.
I can only hope the next estate agent will be happy with any reference and understand i hit a wee bad spell with my job and it was not easy getting a job at that time of year.0 -
If you remain in your current property you won't be squatting. Also to end the tenancy your landlord requires to serve you a notice to quit and a section 33 notice. The section 33 notice needs to be served at least 2 months before the end of your tenancy. Whatever your LL has sent you he only sent it 1.5 months ago so he can't go to court to get an eviction notice yet as proper notice hasn't been served yet.
Also, your bills are none of his beeswax and are not connected to the return of your deposit. Out of courtesy you could give him the names of the utility companies and final meter readings. When you eventually move out just apply to the deposit protection service the LL has placed your deposit in to have it returned.0 -
If you can't afford £850 month then find somewhere a bit cheaper.
Seriously. You're in Glasgow, your finances are obviously stretched, and you're paying £850 rent, with a daughter.
Something far wrong with your priorities.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

That's harsh. The OP lost their job which could happen to anyone. Ok they had some arrears but have cleared those arrears.
That doesn't mean to say the LL can just make up their own eviction process. Also the OP hasn't said they won't move, they just need a bit more time.0 -

Not really.
You can get a 4 bedroom detached villa in Bearsden for a little more than the OP is paying for a 1 or 2 bedroom flat. I think it's a bit weird to sign up for that sort of commitment when you've not got any savings to fall back on.
A lot of people on MSE lose their jobs. It usually happens just after they take out a £10K loan

I let out a 3 bedroom semi detached house in the outskirts of Glasgow for £510 PCM.
It's either a very select area or a very greedy LL.
Hope the OP finds a solution soon.Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper .

The estate agent did send something by recorded delivery, i cant remember what, i cant find the letter but it may have been this. Ill need to ask.
As for the bills, i did not know this when i took out the tenancy but this is part of the agreement, due to the council not sorting out my benefit claim and me having no money to pay council tax, it turns out i was not due any benefit so i must owe about £900, i was going to ask them if i could pay this up over the coming year. The estate agent has told me i have to show them the agreement to show this before they will give me my deposit.0
