It's time to re do the family's sock drawers, who do you find make the best socks ? I'm fed up of buying ones that seem to go hard after washing within a month or the material is so thin they get holes easily.

Hi, yes these days socks aren't the quality of old.
I have ended up either buying the ladies patterned ones from accessorize, as they wash well and last without going into holes. And I occasionally buy ladies but mainly men's from tkmax. The Pringle and crew brand ones are most comfy and long lasting, as are the urban knit brand for men and women.
I have found m and s and all other high street stuff a complete waste of money.0 -
I buy them from Primark and have no problems with the quality what so ever.
Marks and Spencer however, are useless.0 -
I've been buying M&S mens black sports socks for sometime and found them long lasting. The advantage is that you can buy a pack of 5 pairs in plain black so they all match each other - a drawer full of them might be boring but you don't end up with odd socks. Even when they change the "knit" occasionally or weave an emblem into the sole you can still mix and match them. They are slightly thicker so may feel tight in shoes that you've bought wearing the usual thin rubbish.Adventure before Dementia!0

Asda socks are pretty good, OH has some thermal ones for work & everyday ones. i've had sports & everyday ones. all of them have worn very well & they usually have multi-buy offers on.0

how do you wash your socks Claire?
I switched from fabric conditioner to white vinegar in my washing machine a few months ago, it keeps towels, socks etc much softer after washing (I don't use detergent at all on the towel wash, just white vinegar).
I wear black socks most of the year round under trousers, I buy them from Primark, Tesco, Asda etc, and have no problems with the fabric or getting holes in them (although for a few months last winter I was getting holes in every pair of socks I put on - turned out it was a raised seam on the inside of my boot). My OH last bought a multipack of character socks from M&S - they are really good quality, much thicker than the ones I buy.0 -
Never heard about white vinegar, thanks0

I was actually quite surprised at Primarks trainer socks, thick and good quality. The ankle socks weren't bad either.0

I swear by next black socks. They have patterned heels and toes but I always wear odd ones, as long as they are black I don't care!
They last so long and never lose shape or elasticity.0 -
I only buy cheapish socks (Tesco, Asda, Primark) and they seem to last well. I often get bought ones from places like Accessorise (I love bright patterned socks) and don't really find they last any longerThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

That's exactly as I do too. I buy the 5 pack of men's black M&S socks for OH and use them myself regularly. We've never had any issues with quality.
I always say if I win the lottery I will throw all the socks out and buy 200 pairs of matching ones as even though they are black they never quite match properly.0
