Hi,
Very tempted with the Lyca £12 a month deal with 4G. I was wondering if there were any drawbacks with using this network?
I think you used to get charged a lot for calling this network as it was not perceived to be UK based. Not sure if this is now the case?
Thanks,
John

They are UK based, they had an argument with T-Mobile in 2011 and T-Mobile were charging their customers extra for calling Lyca customers. This was cleared up in 2012.
They are a O2 MVNO, so coverage can be checked on the O2 website.
They seem to have quite good CS, I ported a number over to them (also to try out the unlimited 4G). The number ported without a problem and queries were answered very quickly (they even phoned me to give an answer to an email query).
They have a good on line customer services website, as well as an iOS and Android app.
Only minus point, is they are still awaiting a carrier update for the iPhone, so 4G can't be activated on an iPhone yet.====0 -
Can you tether?0

Terms & Conditions for UK Plans
Lycamobile UK Plan (‘the offer’) inclusive allowances are for calls and texts from the UK to standard UK landline (starting 01,02 or 03) and other UK mobile numbers, and for mobile internet usage in the UK. Other usage will be charged at standard rates. Mobile Internet allowance for the UK PLAN 5,7.50,10,12,20,30,40 includes 50MB, 500MB,1GB,unlimited,2GB,3GB,5GB respectively, Allowances are valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. Unlimited usage is subject only to a variation of speed from 3G to 2G for usage beyond 5GB per month per SIM. Calls are rounded up to the nearest minute for the purpose of calculating remaining allowances. A customer may have only one offer on their account and may not buy another during the 30 day validity period. Any remaining allowance after 30 days will not be carried over into the next 30 day period should the customer repurchase their bundle. Lycamobile reserves the right to replace or amend the offer or these Terms & Conditions or to withdraw the offer at any time on reasonable notice.
Note that promotional credit (credit which Lycamobile has given to customers for free) cannot be used towards purchasing a bundle. The offer is for non-commercial, private, personal use only - Lycamobile reserves the right to withdraw or suspend the offer or to disconnect you if we suspect that offer is being used for commercial purposes, for conferencing, or if it is not being used in a handset (in a SIM box for example), if it is being used for tethering or if any reason Lycamobile reasonably suspects that you are not acting in accordance with this policy where we consider that the usage was illegitimate.
Promotional period: the offer is valid from 09.04.2014
So in another words its not Unlimited and NO Tethering. Also its piggyback on orange and o2.What happens if you push this button?0 -

It only works on the O2 network. Lyca used to be an Orange MVNO, but it is now an O2 MVNO.
New customers will only be connected to O2 (some old customers could still be on Orange, but then they will not have access to O2).
It's an either/or, not both.====0 -

Could you supply a link to your terms?
They don't seem to appear on the Lyca website.
General T&Cs are here:

The only current mention of a fair use policy is an article in The RegisterInternational MVNO Lycamobile has launched what it calls “unlimited” 4G mobile data but there is a catch. After the first 10GB of data, the speed drops to 2G speeds of 128kbps. This piece of information isn’t shown anywhere on the website and took a call to Customer Services to establish.====0 -

Yeah.Checked out a sim today & its o2 only.
The fair usage of 10gb seem pretty fair to me for £12 per month.
*update: Been using this service for over 1 week now & I am happy with data speed on 3g(no o2 4g as yet in Aberdeen).I am going to London in about a month & looking forward to trying out their 4g there.0 -
Lyca 3G speeds for me were better than my EE 4G signal, much better!SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
