Parking fine call from debt recovery firm

Options
I parked my wife's car for a short while in a premier in car park in scotland and when I came back I had a ticket. I did not notice it was a pay and display run by A private parking company. I did not pay the ticket.
By chance the car was registered at our old address and I understand they have sent letters there. A debt recovery company has now started to telephone us( our tel no did not change when we moved). They have my wife's name but not our new address and we have refused to provide them details over the telephone. The company are called quest they won't stop calling. What are the risks of them now having this debt?

You've told them nothing, especially not who was driving? Car registered in your wife's name?

If so, ignore them, they'll give up eventually. See if you can block their number (many digital home 'phone systems have a block feature). Otherwise use caller display to ignore them or just hang up on them.

read the NEWBIES sticky thread regarding issues in scotland, beraring in mind the DC can only chase the driver and unless you admit who it was they are stumped (which is the way it used to be in england and wales pre - POFA2012)

It's not enforceable; there's no registered keeper liability and you don't need to tell them who was driving.

If you refuse to tell them anything, they can do nothing. Point that out to them and let them keep calling until they get bored. Alternatively look at getting their calls blocked (from phone company) or just ignored (via your phone if it's got caller display).

I'd stick with answering asking them to hold on and then leaving the phone off the hook whilst you get on with your life.

Yeah, that's good too. Just don't engage in any discussion with them.

just be on guard to the fact these people lie through their teeth and will tell you that you have to disclose information etc etc, your reply,,i have taped this conversation and will now verify if what you say is true,,it isnt so hopefully they will stop calling you if they think you have taped the conversation, absolutely nothing can/will happen to you as a result of this.

Because you haven't told them very firmly, to stop the contact as it is harassment of a registered keeper. There is no 'keeper liability' with a private ticket in Scotland.

There are no risks. There is no debt. This link may help, but remember your case is NOT a debt so none of the warnings about repercussions of not paying the 'debt' apply to you, it's the harassment angle I want you to understand so you can, next time they ring, confidently tell Quest to get lost:

Also search the forum for the keyword 'Scotland' which finds loads and LOADS of threads like this:

HTH, do your own search to read more like that, to put your mind at ease that NOTHING happens.
