Attics!
Last time I moved I wondered why we put stuff in the attic, I had a music device eg stereo, boom box from every decade...it's as though you think things will go backwards in technology and we will go back to using it again.0 -

Best advice ever. After your first cuppa at your new home the first job to do is make up the beds. Honestly you'll be glad you did when you're dead on your feet later!0 -
I am so against moving, I haven't done any for nearly 2 decades. I still wince when I think about the move to this house.
It was a few days after Xmas, kids were small then and the house I moved from had no parking at all. Parking was at the end of the street. 7 or 8 houses away.and there were trees all the way down my street/paved area.
Had naff all money, it was all organized maybe 3 days before the move, because the original company pulled out at the last minute.
The new company had to send a smallish van. Everything barely fitted into van. (but bless the 2 moving fella's they did work so hard) I moved across town and when me and the movers had finished unloading at this end, I then had to trek back across town to pick up my kids. I was tired and skint and asked my ex husband for a few quid ( for a takeaway so I didn't have to cook) and he refused, then I had to trek back across town with kids to unpack enough to see us through to the next day.
Then I sat and cried a lot. This proves that moving house is far too stressful and should only be attempted when money is no object and people will pack for you, and unpack too.;)63 mortgage payments to go.
Zero wins 2016 😥0 -
If you've a self storage unit very close by - it might be worthwhile renting a slot for just 2 weeks - then you can lob a load of stuff in there to clear your existing house to a reasonable level, leaving you the final days just surrounded with the essentials.... and then in your new home, move the essentials in, and getting the other stuff out of storage over the first week. It might be worth the £60-100 or so it costs just to be able to face it.
Of course, if the nearest is 3-5 miles away at least, then it might become a chore in itself.0 -
When we move we always pay for packing and unpacking, lazy, but it gets done much quicker and when you consider how much extra work they are doing the price isn't too bad.0

I have a rule: nothing ever goes in the attic.... don't even think about it..... I'd rather get a shed to put things into because at least that's less daunting.... but it's best to be hard and just get rid of stuff rather than thinking an attic is any solution.0 -
I took a day off yesterday and took ds1 with me to Brum, mainly so I could go to my chiropodist (love babysoft feet), and used my 1/3 off Birthday Yo Sushi voucher. OMG that boy can eat! 10 dishes to my 4(& miso). So nice to get away from the looming pile of boxes in the living room and I can start again.
Exchange went OK today so another load off. Just spent the morning changing my address for bank, c/cards., eBay, PayPal, Amazon etc while I had breakfast and I must remember to redirect my mail as well, but that's not so urgent as I have 4 weeks from Monday to hand the keys back.
Mum and dad are coming round so that's another couple of pairs of hands lol . but they're also taking ds2 away until after the move to keep him out of my hair. His room is all packed up and ready to go. I only have handbags to pack in mine as my wardrobes have been dismantled & tipped, with my clothes in garment boxes.
Not long now though :-)Noli nothis permittere te terere

Rent the self storage for three months and only take stuff out as you need it.
At the end of three months throw everything that is still in there away.

I must be odd as I don't find moving stressful at all, its hard work but has never been stressful in the last 12 moves.
Hopefully moving again within the next 6 weeks.0
