I don't know consoles etc, but could it be an overheating issue - maybe your power supply (if separate from the device) is not performing as well as the one the shop used?

If it didn't cost too much I'd take him to small claims court anyway. It's not the money it's more the principal.

If you raise SCC action and win, your costs in bringing the action (filing fee, hearing fee) are (usually) payable by the losing party.

File online with the SCC. As already said, if he loses he will have to pay your fees.

Personally id file a claim without a second hesitation.

    File a SCC claim.
It's unlikely you'll get your money back but it might annoy him a bit.

I've seen this time and time again with this independent 'computer shops'. I'm sure there are good ones out there.. just not that many it seems.

I showed him a video on my phone of the computer freezing and not reading the discs

Is there much point if I'm unlikely to get my money back?

    Cheers for help everyone

Can you not demonstrate the problem 'live' on his premises?

I personally think you would have a good chance of getting your money back if you went to the small claims court.

If I was in your situation, I would take it somewhere reputable to get it repaired - possibly even with Sony. At least that way it will come back with a report on what repair has been carried out.

File the report as evidence with the SCC.
