I'm after some advice as to which platforms people are using for a shares ISA. I currently use iii which is reasonably priced and has a decent app.

My other half started with IG which again was reasonably priced and had an app. Unfortunately we then found out that they didn't offer dividend re-investment. We were very disappointed to only find this out after setting the account up. On their forum they said DRIP would be offered in 12 months. That was April 2017 and it's still not available.

She is tempted to switch to iii but we also wouldn't mind looking at others.
Any advice for a low-cost platform, with an app, DRIP, US (and other foreign) stock markets?
I found one platform that offered US access but only during UK trading hours. ie it stopped US trading at 4:30. Again this was in the small print (and I cannot remember which platform it was!)

Given you have some special requirements you might get more success posting a new thread on the main Savings & Investment board. Many of us avoid time critical trading in individual shares as we get a more satisfactory result holding funds and investment trusts for the long term.

  • Don't go near Interactive Investor - absolutely dreadful service, utterly useless with complaints. Since taking over TD Invest the service has gone down the drain

    Hi,

Can anyone offer advice regards the transfer of an ISA Stocks & Shares to a different online trader, RETAINING the shares I already have? I'm currently with Interactive Invester who's fee's are expensive as I only have one set of share's and don't trade very often. I've checked out Cavandish/Fidelity Online trading and because my shares are not on their list they will sell my shares if I transfer over leaving me with cash to invest in their list. I'd like to keep the shares I have and pay less fee's. Any help/advice appreciated. Thanks.

Step 1: find a broker who will hold the shares you have - you don't give any details but presumably they're a bit off-piste if Cavendish/Fidelity won't touch them?

Step 2: open S&S ISA with new broker.

Step 3: instruct that new broker to transfer your S&S ISA over, transferring the shares 'in specie', i.e. without selling and rebuying - their transfer process should give you this option....

Which market do your shares trade on?
  • My father died some 9 years ago and i have recently found documentation relating to investments he made and an old life insurance policy. Both companies are now insolvent, has these monies now been lost?

If you post the names of the companies concerned then you might get some insight from posters on here, but insolvency doesn't usually have a positive outcome. If the investments were held within an ISA then the ISA wrapper wouldn't close even if the investments themselves failed so perhaps the ISA manager may be able to shed some light on current status?

There is now some FSCS cover for insurance companies failing but this probably wouldn't have been in place when your father's policy was bought....

Hi, hoping that someone can help me. I have been looking online for a few days now and a bit stumped.

I am currently in a SAYE share scheme with my employer. I have opted for the three year scheme and it ends in July. I'm in a fortunate position that the share price has almost doubled.

In order to be as tax efficient as possible I want to transfer to an ISA - the Gov UK site states that in order not to pay any capital gains tax I need to transfer my shares within 90 days - however after contacting several investment providers non of them have told me that this service is available.

Can anyone help me on this? I am really new to this world so a bit stumped as to what to do...can anyone recommend any traders that they know offer this or how I actually do this!

Wondering if anyone has any advice for me please.

I started investing in a passive tracker fund in December last year. This now has ~£2k in it. I am wondering if it is worthwhile putting this into a S&S ISA wrapper. If I don't plan to crystallise any of the investment in this tax year (before April 2019), is there any point? As long as I put it in to a wrapper before then, then any gains after that are free of CGT? And even then, will putting it into a wrapper count as crystallising it? So far I only have a gain of like £100 on it.

Side note, I plan to make full use of CGT allowance this year using other means.
