If you like the idea of a rose bush, there are plenty with appropriate names, you could then give them a bud vase with their initials on. We did this for a silver wedding gift and they always picked the first bud and put it in the vase.0

I have used the following company twice when I have wanted to send a very personal gift to (a) a family member and (b) a special friend.
On both occasions the roses delivered were extremely healthy.

Well done for being supportive and positive.
DH and I didn't exactly have 'family drama' when we wed in 2002, but there was certainly a chilly atmosphere from one part of the family (mine, not his).
I would second the idea of a rose-bush. How about this: http://www.tree2mydoor.com/your-wedding-day-rose-bush-gift.html

Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -

Unfortunately they don't have a garden, though this has given me some ideas for a birthday/chirstmas/anniversary if they move. Those rose bushes are lovely.
It's hard because I was much closer to his dad (OH is a typical man who doesn't like to show his feelings) but I don't want to take sides as that's just a road to heartache in my opinion, for my OH and me and of course them. The two of us are polar opposites to his sister and her fianc! so it's quite difficult with them too.0 -

Thanks for this Georgie, I love this site. I will do some exploring!0 -
they would probably appreciate you taking them out for a meal and making the effort to get to know him much more than a physical gift, tbh.
We are, we are meeting with them in two weeks (there's a massive distance between us), there's an awful lot of painful background which is something I have never experienced before, they're not just up the road to pop in for a coffee, so to speak.0 -

You're welcome! I love it too. They have some really cool stuff! Hope you find something special.0 -
Have a look at the Spaceform website.

There are many different styles and sizes to suit all budgets and also the option to buy personalised items. There is a list of stockists on the site, so you can have a look at them "in the flesh" before deciding if they're what you want.
I have a couple of the tokens and absolutely love them.

What about a personalised bottle of wine or champagne, I have had them done with a picture of the wedding venue on them, names and dates.
