I agree I asked them a question about one of my employees and OMG it was so way off the mark it was really quiet bad. Thank god for solicitors. I would only use them as a starting point and would never take exactly what they say to be the gospel.
Did you , undervalued or lioness bother to complain about ACAS?
If what you guys say is true then you would surely help the great British public
by pointing out to ACAS where they are going wrong.
Going to see a solicitor. No comment.0 -

I wrote and expressed my dismay at the level of competence they showed. I got a carefully worded apology that 'I felt that they had been unable to help' and an assurance that 'our staff are trained to a very high standard'. Corporate bull.0 -

Thanks Lioness. Interesting.
Please see link below. It's the latest ACAS helpline user survey (2011) carried out by an independent pollster.
It shows that 94% of ACAS's helpline service users were satisfied. Given that the ACAS helpline can be somewhat of a hit or miss experience, then 94% is not that bad a rating. Another poll has just been commissioned and the results should be reported later this year.
To have a level of dissatisfaction of 6% is, however, still of concern. What is disappointing about the report below is that there is no comment whatsoever on the users who were dissatisfied (of which there appear to be a disproportionate number on MSE !):

ACAS do not offer legal advice. So what about Undervalued's apparent first port of call, i.e. to go to a trusted solicitor.
How do solicitors compare to the ratings of the ACAS helpline ? Data is hard to obtain, but a recent YouGov survey of 1,702 UK adults did find that only 42% of them trust lawyers to even tell the truth, down from 47% in 2011. That is definitely a bad rating.
The survey did, however, only focus on consumer law. I would hazard a (cynical) guess that within the legal profession, barristers tend to be more trusted than solicitors. Thus in finding that a statistically representative sample of only up to 42% of UK adults trust solicitors to even tell the truth may in reality be being too kind to them.
There is, however, some good news for the Law Society. This is because bankers, estate agents, double glazing salesman (and possibly philanthropists lol) are trusted even less. As per Mountainofdebt's above post it may be that such professions really are about as much use as a bowl of cold custard !
Regarding Lioness's comment re (ACAS) "corporate bull". I agree that corporate mumbo jumbo can be tiresome. For example, take a look at this twaddle prepared by the body that allegedly regulate solicitors - the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) - in particular read the PDF attachments:

Excellent bedtime reading.
Anyhow, what happened at CraigD's meet ?0 -
