  • If you had read my entire post, rather than quoting a mere extract, you will see that on balance I agree with you.

    It does not look good.

I re-iterated those points as I felt you were offering false hope.

I checked the car for damage and seeing as there was minimal damage (a few scuff marks on the rear corner of the vehicle) I admit I left the scene without leaving insurance details.

Why would you do that? Why would you damage someone's car and just think "stuff them, I don't care"?

I do find it staggering (although I'm not surprised considering human nature) the amount of point scoring and one-upmanship that goes on in the Money Saving Expert Forums.

Have you considered what driving a fully loaded refrigerated van with a wide box and high top entails or what training is involved? Have you considered how difficult it is to maneuver such a vehicle in roads with double parked cars? Have you considered bullying management tactics and the tight schedules involved in delivering online groceries?

I accept that I dropped a * in this incident and I fully accept the consequences of my actions. What I find it hard to accept is the lack of constructive criticism from some posters on MSE.

I accept that I dropped a bollock in this incident and I fully accept the consequences of my actions. What I find it hard to accept is the lack of constructive criticism from some posters on MSE.

Accidents happen, no one has suggested otherwise. The issue here is the fact that you left the scene of the accident without giving your details - there really is no excuse for that.

You'll need to help me out here; what has the difficulties of the job got to do with your response when you damaged someone's car?

I'm sorry if you dislike me being judgemental, but you don't really seem sorry about leaving them to pick up the bill for your mistake.

As for constructive criticism, I suggest being honest in future.

    Is that better?

They don't have to pick up the bill. My employer's insurance policy will cover that.

I repeat I accept full responsibility for my actions.

My general observation is that some posters on MSE are very quick to judge and don't offer anything constructive to the OP. Nothing extraordinary in this. In day to day life this is the case.
  • I agree on here theres some right sanctimonious people who have never made a mistake in their lives. Best just to read comments with a pinch of salt.

What do you want people to tell you?

Not if you've driven off! Had you not been caught the poor sod with the damaged car would have had to foot the bill.

You don't seem to care about the consequences of your actions - that's what grinds my gears. My husband and I worked and saved hard to buy our car. To us, it cost a lot of money. For some careless, thoughtless person to damage it, inspect the damage, consider it of little consequence and drive off is pretty low.

Well, they would if the person had proof as to where and how it had happened, such as your admission. They'd find it far, far harder if no-one was owing up to it.

I know that you think that I am being harsh, but I'm sick to the back teeth of people damaging my car and not having the decency to own up and pay for it. I know that such selfishness is not extraordinary in this day and age...
