Possible Benefit Fraud

This is the problem with someone seeing part of a scenario, and drawing conclusions from that.
Which is why the DWP take so many 'anon reports' with a huge pinch of salt, because so many are either hoax, or misinformed.
Really, no one should get involved unless they are totally certain they know all of the circumstances, and if you do, best to give your own details as well, to add credibility.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Not sure about DWP managed benefits, but I thought with housing benefit, it gets suspended as soon as someone reports someone else is claiming it fraudulently? Our local council do this while the alleged fraud is being investagated and say it is to prevent any overpayment.
Benefit myths & hysteria, media & Pr exercises or law.
Can you imagine everything stopping because of anonymous reports.
It would create chaos, people falling behind with rent, being threatened with eviction.0 -

The neighbour has reported these people and the housing officer has visited, most neighbours know the tenent as he has lived there for about 20 years, but like myself didn't know there was a woman living there. from what the neighbour told me the owner of her flat may have known something about the situation but chose to do nothing and hope that someone would move in for a cheap rent but is having to move out as they are losing days at work because of them.
I don't understand this.
Who is losing days at work and why?0 -
And this is based on what ?

I think people read the Daily Mail, and believe the myths perpetuated by Iain Duncan Smith lol:T :rotfl:
Of course, things won't stop because of anon reports, at best it's investigated, and at worst, it's ignored.
They will only stop immediately, if someone ignores a letter to attend an interview, or contact them.

No, it doesn't stop because of anon reports!
They may investigate, they may not, and meanwhile, benefits are paid.

Basically I found out yesterday from my friend of 20 years that she is claiming single parent benefits when she is clearly with her partner, don't know how to feel about this but I know I'm angry as she's pulled the wool over everyone's eyes and lied blatantly to my face. The thing is she is adamant she is doing nothing wrong an I'd just like some advice as I really dot want to her to get into any trouble.
She has been in an on/off relationship with the father of her two children for years, the kids are 9 and 18 months. They own a house together which they bought years back but since 2010 my friend has not lived with him and has since moved around a bit and lived in 3 different houses and her "ex" has stayed at their home.Myself along with her family just assumed they were separated and that was that but for the last 2 years especially they have been living like a couple and have been going out for meals together, they have been on holidays together, they are constantly back and forth from each other's houses and they are both on the same car insurance driving each other's cars and she still pays some of his bills.
Now i didn't know any of this until she told me yesterday,I just thought they were trying to keep things friendly for the kids but it's much more than that. She hasn't admitted as such that they are still together but she did say that this way they getting have the best of worlds, more money for one as she claims out of work/single parent benefits and he now claims WTC as he has gone self employed and only declares £4k income a year so despite having 2 houses to pay for they are still raking it in.She also says that this way she has more money and she gets to palm the kids of her to their dads house every weekend so she can go out on the town and then have some me time, but to me this doesn't seem right!
She seems to think that because they don't live at the same address they are doing nothing wrong whereas I thought the benefits people look at lot more than were a couple lives and that they look at their lifestyle as a whole,am I right in saying that? If anyone can give me some advice that would be great because if my friend truly is committing benefit fraud then she needs to stop things now before they go any further and she gets into serious trouble!0 -
Sorry,my mistake I don't know what happened there I was reading this thread then went to post my own and it somehow ended up on this!0

From the DWP internal report, most people alleged by joe public are not defrauding the system. Many are just mistakes or allegations out of spite. These people are not millionaires, laughing all the way to the bank.
Not suggesting that they are millionaires. My experience is about 50% of anon allegations have some substance to them.
At the end of the day it is the investigation teams job to establish if an offence has been committed & gather the evidence.
Claims are not suspended unless there is evidence that the award is incorrect or if the customer does not respond to letters.0 -
How do you "suspect" someone of benefit fraud (btw i am a law student) if you don't have all the facts, unless the person has told you or you have all the facts on a persons circumstances? Grow up we all know from DWP you are talking utter nonsense. I do not believe a word you type. You will get sued if you are not careful. Stop worrying about others.
What about suspected criminal activity ? Is it ignored unless there is hard proof provided by a member of the public :silenced:
Are you really a law student ?
*edit*
No need to reply. I've just read some of your posting history...:rotfl:0 -

Do you have a link to that report? I've not seen anything along those lines & would be interested to read it.0
