Get Open Office. It works like MS Office but cheaper. It's not *exactly* the same and IMO isn't as pretty, but as long as it adds up that's all you need :D You can also use Google docs, which is what I was using until I got YNAB. Again, the "Excel" works in the same way.

I have some thoughts about the ones above ;)

Electricity/gas - on the face of it it's quite high, but are you really watching your usage as much as you can? Look around for a free/cheap energy monitor and really watch what's being used. When I got mine I ended up switching off a LOT of things that were on standby ;)

Phone - Is that for just you or for two of you? Mine is £38 a month and I have a spanky new smartphone ;) If you're not using all your allowances (e.g. 600 minutes a month but you're using 200) try calling them and renegotiating. Nothing ventured ;)

Telly - Who are you with? That's a crazy amount to be paying. Again, call them. Explain that your circumstances have changed and that while you don't want to cancel the package (I presume for that amount it's phone, telly and internet) you want to reduce it and what can you do? They might let you go on to Freeview.

Presents - seems ok to me tbh, especially if they have birthdays too. How old are the little 'uns? I've gotten presents for my nephew/niece in Poundland before :o They have some lovely kids books/DVDs sometimes and the kids don't know/care what you spend.

Entertainment - Leave it. You need some fun or you go mad ;)

Do you really have that excess of £64 a month? If you don't, it's time for a spending diary. There's loads of free apps for phones. YNAB is amazing, but don't buy it full price. I got it in the Steam sale for £7 :money:

The electric is high I ahem use the dryer at least twice a day :o Youngest has reflux and likes to cover everything in sick :rotfl::o but it could be less for definite when I see others on here. The gas has over £250 in credit but with youngest lung issues I know the heating will be on more than last year

This is two of us but £38 is mine  It's everything unlimited because I use it too much :o Again we have 2/3 hospital trips a week at least and appointments coming out of everywhere since youngest so when I upgraded I upgraded tariff because I was sick of going over by £90 some months :eek Will look at cutting down though and when it's up going to sim only now I have the phone I want ;)

This is his! It annoys me I don't watch the tv and can use my phone for the internet  Head against brick wall when discussing this I might see if I can take bits off without him knowing :rotfl:

Kids are 5,3 and 7 months nearly. Birthdays are 17th Feb, 2nd March and 8th March < didnt think that through well with all birthdays so close :rotfl::rotfl:

Entertainment - Leave it. You need some fun or you go mad ;)

I was thinking about this and especially now the weathers changing and there's only many parks and spashing in puddles you can do I think I'll leave it until the weather changes again then see if we can spend less

No I never have money left :o Although over the last 3/4 months him moving out then back not sharing his wages into this house has made it harder. He still hasnt put anything in and now has no wages  I've got a my diary set up to use as a spending diary too and will keep an eye for YNAB in a sale somewhere I was really getting use to using it :o
    Thank you for replying :)

Honestly, if he has no money coming in and isn't giving you money, cancel his telly :D It might make him think on...

I can beat you on the clustered birthdays, three of mine are March 6th, 13th and 16th (the 16th was due on the 6th but thankfully stayed put!). I'm already planning for the year they turn 21, 30 and 18 together!! Just over 13 years until that one. It will be cheaper for you in the years ahead if they can agree to shared parties!

The present budget could probably be slashed to £30 or even less per month. The baby will be happy with the boxes (!) and a couple of small token gifts, the 3 year old doesn't need much more than that and probably has plenty already, even the 5 year old would be happy with 3-4 special well-thought out gifts (and this year the 3 year old won't count the different number of packages - any idea of 'fairness' will be all in your head, not theirs). You'll all benefit from spending less on toys, your house will be less cluttered and life will be easier with less to tidy away or clean around. Your oh doesn't deserve a visit from Santa at all!

Something to read, something to wear, something you want, something you need, something to do, a treat to eat and a special surprise. Works perfectly for my lot (all 6, aged from 4 to 22) with stocking fillers as a bonus for the smallest 4 (this stops when they start coming in drunk on Christmas Eve!). My budget this year will be £1500 for birthdays and Christmas and includes a one off £500 cash gift to ds1 for his 21st birthday (December 28th, what was I thinking?!!) dh's gifts, wider family and the inevitable school birthday parties too. For this year only I am paying DD1s car payments of £100 per month for which she will give up most of her birthday and Christmas gifts. That's a shocking £2700 total, thankfully it's for one year only.

Perhaps scrape £5 off the entertainment budget, but not if it makes you miserable. It doesn't seem like you're spending a lot there and we all need some fun in life.

I sympathise on the sicky baby front. I vividly remember ex-h telling me he didn't love ds1 as much as dd1 because he couldn't pick him up without getting covered in vomit :(. Doctors didn't treat reflux 20 years ago and while he continued to gain weight he was labelled 'a happy vomiter' and we were left to get on with it. It lasted 9 smelly, laundry filled months. If you need to use the dryer, use it!

  • Another long night on the kids ward. Home for now... wonder how long for?!

Thanks Nintud, I don't "do" Xmas I HATE it. If it wasn't for the kids it would just be another usual day in this house. I think it will be £50 5 years old £30 3 year old and £20 baby (This would be less but I'm using the walker as her xmas present :o)

Oh yes she can do some fair amount of sick, shes medicated so not in pain but the sickness is never ending! She's tube fed and sometimes it seems to come out quicker than it goes in! x
