What birth deformities can heroin cause if the father is the user?

    I also thought the same...

You know you're an argumentative soul when you have to google something as random as this :rotfl:

Apparently there can be both physical and mental deformities as the drug mutates the DNA but, as you say,the baby wouldn't be born with an addiction

Wheres the evidence for that then? I think its utter rubbish. Heroin doesnt mutate DNA.

It affects sperm count and quality, but not in a way that causes birth defects or illnesses in infancy. The mutations in the poor quality sperm would just lead to a very early miscarriage.

I'm sure not everyone will agree but if it was me, and I can can imagine that suing them is going to cost a fortune, I would try one of the 'no win, no fee' outfits.

I certainly wouldn't try one of the "no win, no fee" outfits.

I would consider, though, a CFA (conditional fee agreement) with a proper firm of solicitors.

  • Thanks for the advice, a CFE sounds a good idea,

As for heroin and birth defects, a major proportion of children born to heroin addicts are being born with extra digits (fingers and toes) and other problems,

Danelionclock, Thanks for missing the point and searching for an argument,

Yes, but surely the vast majority of these would be caused by the MOTHER taking heroin during pregnancy, rather than the sperm coming from a heroin user?

I'm not saying the latter is definitely impossible, but I would imagine the former would be hundreds more times likely?

Why has it taken 7 years for a DNA test?

While drug addiction in pregnant women can affect fetal development, drug addiction in fathers doesn't normally affect the baby at the time of birth. Addiction can affect sperm quality and development, but these defects usually cause early miscarriage rather than birth defects. Studies have not shown a connection between birth defects and addictive drugs
