  • Hi Gibby. Please don't feel guilty about new clothes. You could see it as a work expense/investment. You need to look presentable and it's amazing how much better we feel and then how much better our interactions are when we feel good..

Enough of the pontifications (for now :rotfl:).

Hope you had a gr8 day today. X

  • Thanks lovely SS - quiet morning just chilling with DH (he has no 'Sunday' feeling so is very cheerful) then went to l1dl to buy essentials (£37 but stocked up for the week, plus some storecupboard including those needed for some upcoming more adventurous recipes at a great price) then to the parents to feed my lovely mum and dad (plus us). Chicken, chips, and veg followed by an apple crumble that went wrong, but was a million times nicer (almost like a toffee apple shortbread pudding). Naughty as heck, but blooming lovely!

Then came home and cleaned the kitchen (rock and roll) ready for the next stage of decorating; now waiting for DH to join me so we can update YNAB and meal plan for the week.

Love updating YNAB but really it's anything to prevent me from having to start my work......

Hope you (and all) had a lovely day today also?

Will check in properly later x

  • Ahem....

(attempts to draw peoples attention to signature)

We're going to meet the window savings goal early!

    Hurray :)

Probably a good job as have overspent this month a bit. YNAB isn't shouting at me, but that's coz I've had a reshuffle (naughty). Must do better now the incomings are significantly reduced.

Still beat the savings goal. Time for a celebratory brew :) x

  • YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! Well done guys!! Gibby and hubby, be very proud! And please go back to the very first tutorial of YNAB. What does it say? They do not expect you to get every budget spot on. It is almost MANDATORY to jiggle stuff around. It is the mindful nature of knowing where you are removing the money from, to fund other things that is the idea. Not, oh well we will just stick it on the credit card and we will be fine! ;)

So happy for you to be beating the savings goal! :D And... give yourself a break in that siggy please... Your mortgage is not a 'debt' - it is your forever home. Start thinking about that after you've cleared everything else, take it off :p

As for this month. YNAB is not shouting, so you did a good job. Give yourselves a pat on the back. And I am so glad DH doesn't have that Sunday feeling. Soon he will have what I have. The day before work feeling, followed swiftly by the oh it isn't so bad, and I've only got 3 days there feeling ;)

Well done gib!! That's really great. One less thing you will have to worry about.

I don't use YNAB (tried the free trial briefly but was too impatient) but I do shuffle my pots ALL THE TIME!!! It works. Don't worry about it.

Toffee apple shortbread pudding?? Yeah, ok. I'll try some of that please :)

    Hello there!

Well done on the windows savings, that's a great result.

I think the money spent on work clothes is a good investment, it'll be a massive confidence boost, and it's a great thing to feel confident at work.

Because I've known for a while that I'll be leaving work at some point, I haven't refurbished my working wardrobe for ages. It's touch and go whether my clothes will last until December, or whether they'll fall apart first!:rotfl: but I don't mind, I'm going to have a bit of a splurge next year, for some new clothes for my new life!

  • Thanks all for the lovely comments

Lilt - you're so right. YNAB didn't shout (there was more income there last month tho so October will be 'better')

GAP - mine's a tea thanks. What biccies you got? ;) I'll make enough to go round next time, although can't promise it'll be exactly the same. Would put vanilla in, and a bit less sugar next time, but oh it was amazing!

Goldie - Loving the 'new clothes new life' vibe! Definitely felt a bit better today in smarter things. I was so careful not to spill anything on them too. I'm very clumsy, and the 100's of washes won't help their longevity! I'll be popping over to 'yours' shortly to see how you got on at the doctors today (well I hope?)

Quite a good day today. Did buy lunch (naughty gib) but left mine in the office and was famished. Must try harder.

Came home to the most gorgeous home made pie - DH mastered pastry at his first attempt. It was so yummy. I'm a lucky girl. Now we just have to find a recipe for diet pastry and we'll be fine :)

Nothing else MSE to report really. It's my birthday this week, so apart from a meal out, we'll be back to super frugality once we get paid. Also found out my extra day has been extended for 1 more month at work, so a couple of hundred extra which I snatched their hand off for (good timing). I also know that it won't be extended again, so although I'm tired, it's worth it for a few more weeks.

Hope everyone else is well? Off now to try and catch up with diaries x

  • Yay for the extension on your hours for a month Gib!! Are you sure you can take all this on? We are here, of course, but I cannot actually sleep for you... or relax etc. Much as I would like to! ;)

BIRTHDAYYYYYYYYY?!?! :D:D Yay!!! What a lovely week for it to come in, when DH is having such a good time! And bless DH for his pastry making! Do you loan him out? I will pay for pastry making... :D no hanky panky, just pastry! It is my most hated 'baking'. :rotfl: shame I love it so much.

P.S yesterday I ate two snickers bars and a quarter of a pot of B&J fudge brownie ice cream. Today 1 snickers bar, half a (big) tin of rice pudding, a drifter bar and a pack of rolos. I resemble buddha currently, legs crossed, tummy spilling out over them :o:o:o

YNAB is shouting at me today... :p no creative accounting can pay for the amount of chocolate and carp I have bought this week..and eaten

  • Aww...bless you lilt. We all need a carp binge every now and again. Hope it doesn't make you poorly sick tho. I'd hate to try and imagine the consequences if I ate that atm...I won't share in the interest of TMI, but you can probably imagine if I say that I'm waiting for a rather uncomfortable photograph to be taken to identify the source of inflammation / infection. Actually, I wonder if you get a copy to take home, lol. I promise not to share if so.....

Unfortunately, DH is not for loan :). I am a crazy jealous monster when unleashed, therefore will be selfish and keep him just for me. I would be happy to invite you all over for tea tho - I'm sure DH wouldn't mind waiting on us, while we put the MSE world to rights, and ate yummy food. Might be worth waiting till I have proper chairs tho. And a table. And carpet, plastered walls, no 'air holes' where a brick is missing, less rubble on the floor....etc etc. Might be a while ladies and gents ;)

Also, as we just lost another light bulb, we'd be sitting in the dark.

As you can see, the extra day is very important to pay for the above, lol. It's not too bad, just means that I am working every other Saturday, and sometimes one night in the week in addition to my 40hrs. The killer atm is the paperwork that I'm behind on. Done a bit more tonight, but I'm hoping that by the end of this week, I'll be nearly up to date. If not, I will use some of my leave, but I'd prefer not to.

Now...is it too late to watch Dr Who when I've got to be up for work in about 7 1/2 hours....decisions, decisions.... x

  • To make you feel better... When I was 18 months old, I helped my dad dig out a pipe all the way to the sewer line, so that for the first time in my life, we had a toilet indoors... and an actual sink in a bathroom, and a... BATH! When I left home at 18 years old, it still wasn't decorated... :rotfl: I know all about the air bricks, lack of plaster, bizarre wallpapered ceilings, orange wooden walls... no heating. We did at least have lightbulbs aplenty though! ;) your house sounds LOVELY and it is all yours. And the banks *cough* lets gloss over that. It is YOURS!

40 hours a week....... plus all that? I struggled when I did 37.5 hours a week. Let alone to do it with your current uncomfortable situation (I figured as much by the way) - really hope you get a diagnosis, and a helpful one at that. Something fixable!

I have a great capacity for chocolate. In fact, I can eat so much it scares me. But I still do it...

No Dr Who. Bedski, for you and me both. I have new painkillers which are knock out pills. Just took them, so lights out here!

    Night hun xx
