When i rang my bank, i explained that on my statement it said said £4 PPI, that was it, i asked if i pay PPI and she said yes, so id asked since when and her reply was 04/06/1998, thats when i almost fell to the floor as i genuinely had no idea, overdraft payment protection insurance. She asked me if i wanted to make a claim, id said yes because id never of wanted it!! Apparently, according to info on this site, before a certain date the PPI box is automatically ticked? I havent constantly been into my overdraft but most of the time i have :-/ its not just me thats in it is it?!

been told today by my bank i CAN claim it back
This means you can attempt to claim it back, not that you will definitely be successful. Sorry if that sounds "negative".

You won't have paid PPI for the periods when you didn't have an overdraft.

Would any Bank actually countenance this? I sincerely doubt that the overdraft has been continuously in the red for that period of time..

I've seen a few cases where it has happened, it has only been picked up on when the customer has had reason to contact the bank. Worrying that people can live that way and apparently not notice random payments leaving their account :(

OP, you're going to have to make the complaint and see what they say. In the meantime, please get some help with your budgeting on the aforementioned board.

Spoke to bank AGAIN, you are incorrect money and unfortunately, yes ive always been in my overdraft which means i CAN claim it back! I agree tom but i have 3 small children and find having to save/pay back the overdraft very difficult, if i could turn back the clock i would never of had the overdraft, i didnt know about such a thing until my bank said it was a good idea to have one.

Always being in your overdraft actually indicates that you had a need for the insurance and so is no indication that any complaint you make will be successful. Again, sorry if this is "negative". You'll only know for certain in 8 weeks time.

Plus the PPI was taken out exactly the same time as I took out the overdraft (obviously) at which time I wasnt working, didnt understand any of what i was doing/getting myself in to then :-/

If you constantly live in overdraft, how would you continue to pay for it if you became unemployed? That's exactly what the insurance is for and clearly indicates you have a need for it.
On what basis did you complain about it?

Overdraft ppi complaints with this bank are mostly upheld if there's none or little evidence of the actual sale. Can I ask what your circumstances were at the time because if continuously overdrawn then the additional ppi charge would only add to the debt which might go in your favour?
