What is the name of garage so we can avoid this cowboyDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Sounds like you are being spun a line. You clearly have been driving the car before test with no issues of stopping or securing the car on the hand brake. If you was having trouble one would assume you would have sought advice from a garage prior to paying for an mot knowing it would fail. I.e not able to secure the car on the hand brake for one.0

I suppose that's the problem with handbrakes....as long as one side is working you don't notice until MOT time when it goes on the tester0

are the brakes completely shot or just needing new pads/discs etc? try putting the car through a council yard MOT, these places are not run for profit and will pass something even if it is only a marginal pass. only bad thing is there could be a long waiting list to get a test booked and they do not carry out repairs.0

The Ghia does have an electronic parking brake which was known to have issues and be more costly to fix, however it certainly does sound like you have been conned with previous repairs.
Scrapping is very extreme in my opinion. I have actually just bought an 11 year old Focus C-Max with 105k miles and it has plenty of life left in it. As others have suggested I think you definitely need to try another garage.0 -
what actual repairs have you had to the vehicle & what is the name of the garage because if you had £800 worth of repairs on one bill that should be most of the braking system replaced so should not fail so quickly.
those mot failures sound not so bad compared to the ones i see on a regular basis.0 -
I'd have thought £800 paid for new discs, calipers pads and fitting all round0

Looking at euro car parts the following is costs,
Front calipers £61.20p each
Rear calipers £105 each
Rear disk and pads £60.08 pair
Front disk and pads £64.21
Total £456.59
So lets say Pagid parts above leave's fitting cost's of £350 ish to yo..
Plus all four calipers to be faultyThat is very rare in my view.

Use www.carparts4less.co.uk and it will be much cheaper (an internet branch of ECP).0
