I am not surprised you would be hurt by such a reaction. What a horrible thing to say.

Why shouldn't you have written it? Obviously she thought the only problems you had were trivial, so you corrected her. The fact is, people who make homemade gifts put a lot of time and effort into them, so i can't blame you for being annoyed about the comments you received. Perhaps you should inform your neighbour that crafting is very popular right now, and can be far better than shop bought!0 -
Home made is the height of fashion now and the shop bought/ factory made look is pretty much out. The designers now try to emulate the homemade look, Cath Kidston for instance. The rude mother doesn't know what she is talking about I'm not convinced she is actually speaking on behalf of the daughter she is probably jealous that she can't make things like that for her daughter to show off to her friends.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

Of course you are entitled to have a minor rant... the comments were totally uncalled for anyway. Hope it made you feel better.... I can see a little memo at the top of the page which says "be nice to all Money savers"...well, she wasn't!!
And in the meantime hope you are creating some lovely thing (things) for folk who appreciate hand made items.:D

Well that neighbour is a rude so and so
Whether the daughter liked it or not she shouldn't have said anymore than thank you.
I work with children around that age and I can see that she may it have liked it, kids are so fussy and ungrateful these days, but if they are taught and brought up with manners they say thank you and smile.
Had someone said that to me after giving them a gift I'd have said there and then, fine then, give it back and i'll give it to someone who will appreciate it! I'd also add I hope she finds someone later in life who will be able to afford and keep up to her fussy demands!

Are you related to the neighbour or maybe the daughter?
You are so rude with your comment
LOL, that was my first thought too.
Some people just don't realise that sometimes it is best to say nothing at all.
As for the OP's reaction, I would have been upset too.
Sometimes, though, maybe people who don't do craft don't understand the thought and work that goes into something. No excuse whatsoever, of course, another case of it would have been better to say nothing at all.0 -
I feel your pain Hettie! That is disgraceful.
I thought my niece was bad. See my other posts.
She is nothing in comparison.
But once this present buying cycle has started, its hard to get off even when something like this happens.
I think you (like me) might have to say nothing and just inwardly seethe!0 -
Wow I'd feel hurt too! However, sadly, is speaks volumes about her attitude and values. I'd much prefer to be you e.g. Kind, thoughtful and giving! She doesn't deserve the effort you made.0

Some people are just rude and ungrateful and really dont deserve such athoughtful gift. Recently my son and daughter had a joint party and they invited a brother and sister, as the party was starting I had a text from the mother apologising that her children had made gifts for my children and had refused shop bought items - they had painted one of their toy cars for my son and made a button necklace for my daughter - my children loved them and I actually hd a little tear that they had put so much effort in. So please dont be disheartened I am sure most people would appreciate this type of gift x0
