Hurt by reaction - NEVER AGAIN!!

Some people are just SO ungrateful.
My neighbours daughter had her 11th Birthday yesterday.
As money is tight I couldn't afford a lot for a present, so I made her a tote bag. It is very pretty (and well made - I'm a competent stitcher).
She is a very 'girly' little girl, so made it pink with cut out hearts on the front etc etc.
Anyway - long story short - wrapped it up with some bath bits inside in tissue and gave it to her.
This morning - Her Mum says Thanks for ****'s present , but the thing is she only really likes shop bought things, so don't be offended if you don't see her using it
My tongue is still sore from biting it. :rotfl:
Rant over !!!

I'd almost be tempted to ask for it back with the comment "Please give it back as I'd rather give it to a child who would appreciate it and I wouldn't want it cluttering up your house! I'm sure a child in....Syria, Romania etc would love it"
    What a sad person.

How rude and ungrateful! And no child has an inherent dislike of stuff not bought from a shop, half the time they wouldn't even notice so that's your neighbours prejudices coming through. How sad for that child.

That's just flabbergastingly rude! I'd be very tempted to tell her you bought it from Not On The High Street or somewhere similar and it cost £20 but you'll happily return it and buy her a Kinder Egg instead.

I would be buying her a big fat zero for the 12th birthday.

Why are you buying / thinking of buying presents for a neighbour's kid??

Lovely gesture but as you say, money is tight...
Spend what is left after saving. Don't save what is left after spending
  • That sounds like a lovely gift, and I am sure the little girl loves it. Sounds like it is the mother who has an issue. She is a rather crass person so I wouldn't take it to heart.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Her mum obviously not teaching her anything. I always used to say that home-made things were made with love.

    Don't bother again.

I would say buy her a 10p mix bag of sweets and let her know you bought them from a shop. But I would not waste a whole 10p. Be sure to save your artistry on those more appreciative of them in future. ;)

    Hi
You're absolutely right of course, but we've done it for her and my Grandson since they were little.
The bath bits were actually some bits I had upstairs and the fabric from another craft project - so the main cost was my time.
Needless to say it won't happen again! :)
