I believe he said he paid by cheque, so copies of his Statements won't help.0 -
Yes I paid by cheque so I have to obtain all the bank statements first to be able to identify the cheques I need from 2007 to 2012. This is all because I cannot obtain the records from the person I paid them to.0

All of your bank statements that the bank holds cannot cost you more than ten pounds.0 -
I am being asked to pay for 16 bank statements and copies of cheques which were sent once a month for 5 years. the cost originally was going to be £260, but the bank has said they will do it for £140. I have tried bargaining further to no avail. I have no option but to agree.0

Hi Rogerblack, if you want to read further details, I went on to posting queries under Reclaiming Care home fees Page 19 and 20.0

You do have an option... it's called a Subject Access Request
Can I access my personal information?
You have the right to get a copy of the information that is held about you. This is known as a subject access request.
This right of subject access means that you can make a request under the Data Protection Act to any organisation processing your personal data. The Act calls these organisations ‘data controllers’.
You can ask the organisation you think is holding, using or sharing the personal information you want, to supply you with copies of both paper and computer records and related information.
Organisations may charge a fee of up to £10 (£2 if it is a request to a credit reference agency for information about your financial standing only).
There are special rules that apply to fees for paper based health records (the maximum fee is currently £50) and education records (a sliding scale from £1 to £50 depending on the number of pages provided).
However, it is important to remember that not all personal information is covered and there are ‘exemptions’ within the Act which may allow an organisation to refuse to comply with your subject access request in certain circumstances.

I have had to pay £49 for medical records already, nothing for care records and nothing to two other banks who provided 5 copies of cheques each, but this bank will not provide what I want without a fee.
These after all are copy cheques I require, which is not really information is it? ( I am a 'she' by the way!) I have been going around in circles for so long now, I want to get it finalised.0 -

Apologies for referring to you as a 'he'...:o
Your bank can't refuse an SAR. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 they're legally obliged to provide you with all personal data they hold. That could be copies of letters/emails, recorded telephone conversations and anything held on digital, magnetic or any other format which is held in any archives, backups or other storage devices.
Just Google Subject Access Request and you'll be able to find a suitable letter format. Send it by recorded post ('Signed For Service' )
I really do wish you luck in getting this sorted x0 -
I approached the Information Commissioner again, and have been told that the bank is within their right to ask for a fee for copy cheques. What would cost about £10 would be similar to a spreadsheet with transactions, which would be no use to me. Anyway, I have set the ball rolling and expect my next lot of cheques next week. Apparently, the lawyers need the amount available IF my claim is successful. Oh well !!!!!!!!!0
