Am trying to trace lost PAYMENT records to a care home head office that has sold out to another company with no success. Is there a sort of ombudsman for care homes.

What would an ombudsman do exactly?
Financial records would need to be kept by the company, approach them in the first instance.
The only people who inspect care homes regularly is the CQC if they provide medical or clinical care, however they would be very unlikely to help an individual.
If you post what you actually want to achieve, why you need the records, and if the payments were made by yourself (or someone you hold either CoP or POA over) then we could help you.
It is also in the wrong bit of the forum.0 -
Have approached both companies, the previous owners are ignoring me and the present ones deny they hold the records and tell me to go to the previous ones. Brick Wall, come to mind??? Payments were made by me each month for 5 years, and it would be too costly to obtain bank statements, as no spare money available. The records are needed for proof for a claim against the NHS for repayment of fees, which if successful could be very welcome0

Which bit of forum should my question be in ?0

Were these payments for care home costs?0

So how can the Care Home verify what sort of care your relative was receiving and if the placement was adequately funded? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Subject access request to the bank? You can (or used to) get a copy of all the information they hold on you for a nominal fee.0

The bank statements will show X amount was paid in care home fees. But only the care home records will show what sort of care was being provided and if the level of care meant the NHS Primary Care Trust should have been contributing towards that care. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Thanks everyone. It is not the level of care I am concerned with. That was excellent. It is the fact that NHS should have funded the care, not us. But tracing records should not be this difficult, surely ????0

Bank statements will not show who the payments were made to as they were made by me by cheque. Bank statements would cost a bomb for 5 years0

The Primary Care Trust will need the Care Home and Medical records from your relatives Doctor to consider if the NHS should have contributed towards their care.
Bank statements will show nothing apart from money was paid to a care home. The bank statements won't show the level of nursing care, the date they entered and left the home. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
