If the tyres are all below 1.6mm then they would of been very low 2500 miles ago so you should of spotted it, dont think you can put that on the dealer.

What does "issue is they have all been driven on flats not the tread" mean though...were they flat and you drove on them?

Thanks for the reply, I have had an engineers report done on the car and had the car checked by vauxhall and 2 local garages which have told me that the brakes need replaced car needs four new tyres and the emissions on the car are faulty! (Which the dealer are disagreeing that this needs done despite getting 3 opinions)

Would I have any grounds to hand the vehicle back?

Get the finance company involved now.

    Don't refuse to make payments.

The dealer will be more likely to act if finance company involved.

Perhaps spend some time reading up on cars and paperwork needed/involved for the future.

As it is your responsibility to ensure any vehicle you drive is legal and safe to be used on the road.

    Noboy else.

There are many unscrupulous people in the motor trade.

And perhaps a few more details would help.

Age of car, mileage. Make and model and price paid all help to provide context.

The issue with some garages they say the brakes and tyres NEED replacing yet may have many thousands of miles left in them.

You have done 2500 miles so the tyres and brakes may need doing now. But were well above the limit to pass the MOT. Which they maybe now also.

Have they given you a sheet with the actual tread depth and brake thickness?

All these issues were present within a week of purchasing the car. Which everytime I contacted the dealer they fobbed me off. And as for having the car being legal and safe on the road I was advised by the finance company not to have anything fixed on it as the dealer could then say I have messed with the car I am in a position were I am paying £175 a month for a car sitting on my driveway I just want to give it back!

Get the tyres and brakes fixed now and mot it or you will have it sitting there for weeks while the garage argues about this.

You could of checked on day 1 for the MOT certificate if they couldn't provide one. They will argue that the tyres were fine 2500 miles or 3 months ago and the issue causing the grinding noise hasn't been confirmed yet.

Keep the invoices but doubt you will get anywhere.

Finance have came back to me in the last hour, garage have agreed to pay for brakes an 2 rear tyres! And as for checking the MOT on the car I couldn't do this as I didn't have the v5c certificate until the day before I was told there was not MOT on the vehicle otherwise this would have been checked on day 1

Moral: Don't buy a car without an MoT or one where the owner won't let you have the details from the V5C or current MoT to check it out on line.

OP says the car is 3 years old.

If it was under 3 years at the time of sale 4 months ago then there would have been no MOT and no previous ones to check out on line anyway.

OP -when was the MOT actually due? Before or after you bought the car?
